Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which movie did the famous Battle of Hoth take place?

Answer: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

Hoth, the icy world seen in "The Empire Strikes Back", was where the Rebel Alliance had built Echo Base. The Imperials sent out probe droids to a variety of locations, including Hoth, and it found the Rebel shield generator before Han Solo and Chewbacca managed to destroy it. They Imperials sent the fleet to Hoth, but had to use a ground invasion due to the shield.

The battle consisted of Rebel Soldiers holding off advancing AT-AT walkers (Blizzard Force), while attempting the evacuate Echo Base. They used an ion cannon to disable the orbiting Star Destroyers so the unarmed transports could slip by. The AT-AT walkers were too heavily armored to destroy with sheer lasers, so Rogue Squadron, who were flying Snowspeeders, used tow cables to tie up the legs of the walkers, rendering them useless. Colonel Veers, in the lead AT-AT, managed to make his way to the shield generator and destroyed it. With that, Imperial forces started landing en masse and took Echo Base, though most key figures in the Rebel Alliance had managed to escape (such as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia).
2. In which movie did Anakin Skywalker win the famous Boonta Eve Podrace?

Answer: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

When the Queen of Naboo had to flee her planet during its occupation, the ship was damaged. They needed to land their ship and make repairs, and settled for Tatooine. There, they found out that Republic credits were not accepted as currency, and had to resort to betting in order to acquire the parts needed to repair the ship.

On Tatooine, they met Anakin Skywalker, who was only nine at the time. Qui-Gon Jinn sensed the Force around the boy, and put a lot of faith in him. Anakin, as it turned out, had built his own pod racer in secret (If Watto, his owner, knew, he would have taken possession of it). Qui-Gon claimed the pod racer as his own, and got Watto to let Anakin pilot it. He then made two bets: one to get the parts he needed to repair the ship, and another for Anakin's freedom.

Sebulba was Anakin's main competition on the track, but Anakin managed to cause the cheating racer to crash. Upon placing first in the race, Anakin had won his freedom, and was able to travel to Coruscant to become one of the best known Jedi to ever live.
3. In which movie did Jabba the Hutt die, at the great Pit of Carkoon?

Answer: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

In the first half of "Return of the Jedi", Jabba the Hutt had Han Solo encased in Carbonite. An elaborate plan that involved Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and the droids, was set in motion to free their friend. Things didn't go quite according to plan, but it was flexible. Luke Skywalker tried to bargain with Jabba, but the crime lord instead attempted to kill Luke with his pet Rancor (the large beast in the pit at Jabba's palace).

When the Rancor failed, Jabba took the crew out into the Dune Sea where they would be put into the Sarlacc (a large creature underground that digested its prey over the course of a thousand years). Instead of quietly falling into the pit, Skywalker got a hold of his lightsaber, courtesy of R2-D2, and a fight ensued. While Luke took on hordes of Jabba's thugs, Princess Leia, who was kept close to Jabba, managed to strangle the Hutt with the chain he used to keep her by his side. The battle ended when the heroes of the movie all got away, and Jabba's sailbarge exploded.
4. Which movie had the Battle of Coruscant in which two Jedi knights rescued the Chancellor of the Republic?

Answer: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

"The Revenge of the Sith" opened up with space portion of the Battle of Coruscant. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi flew their ships through the maze of capital ships and fighters, eventually coming to the Invisible Hand, General Grievous' flagship. Once onboard they made their way through the ship until they found the Supreme Chancellor on the observation deck. It was here that they confronted Count Dooku. Dooku met his demise at the hands of Anakin Skywalker, and the Chancellor was freed.

During their escape attempt, the Jedi and the Chancellor were trapped and taken to the bridge where they met Grievous in person. The Jedi managed to destroy their droid guards, but the Confederate General got away. During the battle, the Invisible Hand had taken quite a beating, and started to fall to Coruscant. Anakin barely managed to land what was left of the ship, but ultimately, the heroes survived.
5. Which movie included the launch of the Clone Wars, at the Battle of Geonosis?

Answer: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

The Battle of Geonosis was the climactic battle of "Attack of the Clones". Geonosis was a dusty planet whose inhabitants lived underground. There, the leaders of the Confederacy had large hidden droid factories, preparing for war against he Republic.

Obi-Wan Kenobi had followed Jango Fett to Geonosis, and was scouting the planet when he found this out. He sent a message to Coruscant warning the Jedi of the Confederacy, but was discovered and taken into custody by the Confederacy. Anakin and Padme left to rescue him, but were also captured. A large Jedi task force was sent to Geonosis to save Kenobi and Skywalker, who were in the execution arena, but were outnumbered and nearly broken when the droid army made its debut. Before the execution order could be given by Dooku to exterminate the remaining Jedi in the execution arena, the Republic army met the droids for the first time, coming down in LAAT/is and evacuating the Jedi. The battle was taken out of the arena and to the large dusty plains of Geonosis. The Clone Wars had begun.
6. In which movie was Han Solo encased in carbonite, on Cloud City?

Answer: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

Darth Vader set up a trap on Cloud City and lured Luke Skywalker in by causing his friends to suffer. Vader wanted to freeze Luke in the carbon freezing chamber so he could easily be transported to the Emperor. Han Solo was chosen to be the test subject to see if someone could survive the process of carbon freezing.

He was encased and then given to Boba Fett after his vital signs were confirmed. Fett then took Solo to Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine. During the lightsaber fight on Cloud City, Luke did fall into freezing chamber once, but used a Force assisted jump to escape while Vader threw the switch.

The chamber took a lot of preparation to set up, so the same tactic could not be used a second time.
7. In which movie did Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi duel on the volcanic world, Mustafar?

Answer: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

This lightsaber duel is one of the most memorable and emotional fights of the series. It was the climactic sequence in "Revenge of the Sith" when two fellow Jedi, who had once been like brothers, fought for the survival of the galaxy.

Anakin was consumed by his anger and desire for power, and turned on his fellow Jedi in order to save Padme, while Obi-Wan opposed him so that democracy and freedom might survive. In the end, both men failed. Anakin lost the physical fight, having had his limbs amputated by Obi-Wan's lightsaber, and having his entire body burned. He had mechanical replacements installed, and had to wear the infamous suit that we've all come to associate with Darth Vader. Ironically, Padme did not survive, and Anakin's quest for power, although successful, was not enough to accomplish its intended task. He became bitter and turned his hatred towards the galaxy as the Emperor's right hand.

Obi-Wan, although he survived the encounter and walked away, eventually took up a life in hiding, having resigned to the fact that the Republic was gone, and the Empire had taken its place. He watched over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, who would eventually lead the revival of the Jedi Order.
8. In which movie was the first Death Star destroyed in the Battle of Yavin?

Answer: Episode IV - A New Hope

The Battle of Yavin took place at the end of "A New Hope" and was named after the gas giant Yavin where it took place. The Imperial forces were attempting to move the Death Star around Yavin to get a clear shot at Yavin IV, the moon of Yavin that the Rebel Alliance had built their secret base on. The Rebels launched X-Wings and Y-Wings to assault the Death Star and exploit its one known weakness.

At the end of the famous trench run was an exhaust port that led straight to the reactor of the station. The station's turbolasers were designed for attacking large capital ships, not small agile fighters. Grand Moff Tarkin, who was in charge of the station, was too stubborn and arrogant to launch the station's TIE squadrons. With 7000 onboard, the Rebel fighters could have easily been destroyed. Instead, Darth Vader flew in the battle personally, with his customized starfighter, and with him his personal TIE Fighter squadron. Although Vader singlehandedly destroyed most of the Rebel force, the Death Star was still destroyed, marking one of the first major victories of the Rebel Alliance.
9. In which movie did the Trade Federation invade and occupy the peaceful planet of Naboo?

Answer: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

The Trade Federation was a galaxy-spanning corporation that fell under the influence of the Dark Lord of the Sith. When the Republic attempted to tax the free trade zones, the Trade Federation blockaded the planet of Naboo in protest. When Jedi were sent to resolve the crisis (the beginning of "The Phantom Menace"), the Trade Federation, under the guidance of Darth Sidious, invaded and occupied the planet.

The queen escaped Naboo with the help of the Jedi and made her way to Coruscant where she pleaded her case to the senate. The senate decided not to take decisive action, so the Queen took matters into her own hands and returned to Naboo to call upon resistance cells and the Gungan army.

The Gungan army was a diversion, and drew a large portion of the droid army to what would be known as the Battle of Grassy Plains, while the resistance fighters moved in and took back the palace. The hangers were also infiltrated, and Naboo pilots were sent into space to destroy the Droid Control Ship. Finally, Darth Maul, the Sith apprentice, fought the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn. All these events together are collectively known as the Battle for Naboo.
10. In which movie did the epic Battle of Endor take place?

Answer: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

The Battle of Endor was the final battle seen in the "Star Wars" saga (chronologically). The Rebel Alliance fleet attacked the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star II, in their bid to return democracy to the galaxy. It turned out to be a trap, and the Imperial fleet was waiting, resulting in one of the largest space battles ever.

The plan was risky, and involved a strike team, led by Han Solo, that had to land on the forest moon of Endor and disable the shield that was protecting the orbiting Death Star. The moon was a temporary home to the Empire's finest troops who were waiting for the Rebels to walk into their trap. What the Empire did not foresee was the alliance between the Rebels and the primitive, native Ewoks. While many lives were lost on the ground, the shield generator was eventually destroyed.

In space, Alliance and Imperial starfighters were dogfighting, unaware that the Death Star was operational until it destroyed a Mon Calamari cruiser. Unlike the first Death Star, which took hours to power up its super laser, the Death Star II only took three minutes between shots and had a more accurate targeting computer, allowing it to attack capitol ships. The shield was up for most of the battle, so Alliance tactics switched to destroying as many Imperial Star Destroyers as possible.

Onboard the Death Star, a personal battle was being waged between father and son. Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker fought each other in an attempt to convert one another. Luke emerged the victor, but was attacked by the Emperor. Darth Vader, not able to see his son suffer, tossed the Emeror and Dark Lord of the Sith into the reactor core of the Death Star, thus bring balance to the Force as the prophecy had predicted he would.
