Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did Karol Karol get from France to Poland after his wife left him broke?

Answer: He hid in a suitcase and rode in the cargo hold of a plane.

How much damage can one woman do to a man's psyche? Dominique knows no bounds! She freezes Karol's assets, humiliates him in court, then threatens to call the authorities if he darkens her door again. Now that's vicious!
2. What are the titles of the other two films in this trilogy?

Answer: "Blue" and "Red"

"White" is the second film in the "Trois Couleurs" trilogy. It is a black comedy like no other. What Dominique did to Karol is so cruel, but Karol's revenge is way beyond what was done to him.
3. What did Dominique do to drive Karol from her place of business after he was found sleeping there?

Answer: Set fire to the curtains.

Dominique was cruel, but you have to admit that Karol had a "Fatal Attraction" type of personality. He would have never left on his own.
4. Who played Dominique?

Answer: Julie Delpy

Julie Delpy was born on Dec 21, 1969 in Paris, France. Her acting career started at the age of fourteen in the movie "Detective". American audiences would most likely have seen her in the 1993 Disney movie "The Three Musketeers", or in the 1997 movie "An American Werewolf in Paris".
5. What is the last name of the film's director?

Answer: Kieslowski

The man is a film-making genius. When you play the commentary on the DVD and learn the thought process that goes into a single shot, it boggles the mind.
6. How did Karol trick Dominique into coming to Poland?

Answer: He faked his death and relatives invited her to the funeral.

There is a lot more to the story, of course. Karol put Dominique in her will, but she had to come to Poland to collect her share. He stood behind a distant tree at his own funeral to watch her reaction. Most everyone at the funeral was in on it.
7. How many "heads" per week did Karol finally agree to style at his brother's hair salon?

Answer: Seven

Karol had more important things to do than cut hair. He was trying to arrange some extremely lucrative land deals with a local gangster. The deals made him the money that he needed to pull the huge scam on his ex-wife.
8. Karol "shot" a man using a blank cartridge.

Answer: True

A stranger wanted Karol to shoot him because he couldn't muster up the nerve to do it himself. Karol "shot" him with a blank, then said, "The next one is real." The man declined to take the real bullet and ultimately became a friend who helped pull the scam on Dominique.
9. What prop gave the film a voyeuristic tone?

Answer: Binoculars

Maybe Dominique wasn't the monster that she was made out to be. Anyone who would get their ex-wife thrown into prison just so that he could spy on her from a distance is certainly carrying a lot of emotional baggage himself.
10. If the film "Blue" represents "Liberty", and "Red" represents "Fraternity", what does "White" represent?

Answer: Equality

Karol gets his revenge but now he's miserable. He puts the object of his affection in prison for his "murder", then pines for her.
He must have gone to the authorities to show that he was alive, because in the last film, "Red", he's seen with Dominique on the ferry.
