The song "Where Did Our Love Go" was originally intended for the Marvelettes, who rejected the song. The Supremes also did not like the song but were encouraged by their producers to record the song. To their amazement and delight it was successful. It eventually peaking in the UK at #3.
"Baby Love", "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "Come See About Me" were all number one hits as was "Back in My Arms Again".
2. This group were from New York and had "He's A Rebel" as a number one on the US Hot 100 in November 1962. Who are they?

Answer: The Crystals

The Crystals had chart hits in the period 1961-1964 with "There's No Other (Like My Baby)", "Do Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)", "Uptown", "Then He Kissed Me" and "He's Sure the Boy I Love". All making the Top 20.
"He's A Rebel", written by Gene Pitney, was originally offered to The Shirelles, but they turned it down as they did not like the lyrics where the singer likes a bad boy.

"He's So Fine" was written by Ronald Mack, a friend of The Chiffon members and the song has that classic "Doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang" background vocals. "One Fine Day" reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King.
In 1970 George Harrison (ex-Beatle) released a song "My Sweet Lord" which had similarities to "He's So Fine". The estate of Ronald Mack took Harrison to court over copyright infringement. The final ruling was that Harrison had unintentionally plagiarized "He's So Fine".
"Luck Me" and "Sweet Talkin' Guy" were also hits by The Chiffons. The group in 1960 originally consisted of Judy Craig, Patricia Bennett and Barbara Lee who were schoolmates and in 1962 added Sylvia Peterson.
4. "Please, Mr. Postman" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1961. Who released this song?

"Please, Mr. Postman" was their debut single and it was the first Motown song to reach number one. Later The Beatles(1963) and The Carpenters (1975) also did versions of the song.

The girls were all from Inkster High School, Inkster, Michigan and consisted of Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman Juanita Cowart and Georgia Dobbins. They were originally called The Casinyets, then The Marvels and finally settling on The Marvelettes. The Mervelettes also had hits with "Don't Mess With Bill"(1966) and "Playboy" (1962) both reaching number seven with "Twistin' Postman" (1961) only managing number 34.

"Will You Love Me Tomorrow" was written by the husband and wife team of Gerry Goffin and Carole King. "Tonight's The Night" was their first single and peaked at number 39. "Dedicated To The One I Love" reached number three and "Mama Said" reached number four both in 1961.

Another hit, "Soldier Boy" reached number one in 1962. The group consisted of Shirley Owens, Doris Coley, Addie "Micki" Harris and Beverly Lee.

The Angels out of New Jersey, were originally known as The Starlets and finally consisted of sisters Barbara and Phyllis Allbut and Peggy Santiglia. They had other hits in the Top 100 being "I Adore Him" number 25 and "Wow Wow Wee(He's the Boy for Me)" number 41.
The Jaynets had a number two hit with "Sally Go 'Round the Roses" in 1963. The Orlons had Top Ten hits in ""The Wah-Watusi" number two, "South Street" number three and "Don't Hang Up" number four in 1962 and 1963. The Sensations' biggest hit at number four was "Let Me In".

The Paris Sisters were a girl group out of San Francisco who reached number five with "I Love How You Love Me" in October 1961.
The Blossoms actually recorded "He's A Rebel" but the song was not credited to them but to The Crystals.

"Simon Says" and "Wishing Well" were released in 1963-64 but did not make the Top 100. "Remember (Walking in the Sand)" reached number five in the US in 1964.
