Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Are You able to check the "Want Ads"?

Answer: The Honey Cone

Jean Knight did "Mr. Big Stuff".. The Honey Cone hit w/"Stick-Up", "The Day I Found Myself" and (my favorite) "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show" as well. Oh yes, as those of you who did the 1970 Quiz already know I have my own compilations for the annual rankings and "Want Ads" came in at #22 for 1971.
2. Who promised "She's a Lady"?

Answer: Tom Jones

Now that was easy. The Welshman came in at #26 with this trademark tune.
3. Who was playing with their "Yo-Yo"?

Answer: The Osmonds

This was the #34 song of the Year by my count. The Kinks did a track "Yo-Yo" off their 1981 release "Give the People What they Want". And Chuck Berry's "My Ding-a-Ling" was likely about a Yo-Yo according to my sources.
4. Who reminisced about "An Old Fashioned Love Song"?

Answer: Three Dog Night

Paul Williams wrote it, but 3 Dog Night took it to #4 and #65 for the Year. The Everly Brothers had a nice hit with "That's Old Fashioned" in 1962.
5. "I've Found Someone of My Own" was a proud moment for who?

Answer: Free Movement

Sounds like a Bread title. Brewer & Shipley Hit #10 w/"One Toke Over the Line". This One Hit Wonder came in at #68 for the year.
6. Who inquired "Doesn't Somebody Want to Be Wanted"?

Answer: The Partridge Family

David & Co. had more hits than just "I Think I Love You" suprised? Besides this title that came in at #48 for the Year, there was "I'll Meet You Halfway", "I Woke Up In Love This Morning" and three more. Interestingly, each was a bit smaller hit then the previous.
7. Who had us get on the "Peace Train"?

Answer: Cat Stevens

Now that was easy. The O'Jays had "Love Train" in 1973. Mr. Stevens' Train came in at #61 for the year.
8. Who introduced us to their "Sweet City Woman"?

Answer: The Stampeders

the DC5 did record this a couple years later. The Village Stompers are best known for "Walk Right In" & "Washington Square" (SCW - #76 in '71)
9. Who's dancing with "Mr Bojangles"?

Answer: The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

Let me point out that I've made it a habit to assign a song to the year it first debuts in the Top 40. I do this because I feel strongly that this is the time the song reaches public awareness; and it's a clean cut between years. "Mr. Bojangles" went Top 40 the very first week of 1971, and became #62 for the whole year.
10. Who was deeply contemplating "What is Life?"

Answer: George Harrison

For Johnny Cash see the 1970 quiz. The Moody Blues had "the Question" in 1970 as well. This playful ditty was #108.
11. Who let us know "She's Not Just Another Woman"?

Answer: 8th Day

"You've Got to Crawl Before (Before You Walk)" was a smaller hit they had later this year. This one I placed at #90.
12. "Everybody's Everything" was who's claim?

Answer: Santana

#119. Nilsson had "Everybody's Talking" 1969.
13. "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" was a noble effort by?

Answer: Hillside Singers

If you tried to find the New Seekers, Good for You! they had the bigger hit with this song going to #7 (#78 for the Year). This version went to #13 (of course) and #96 for the Year. I'm gonna go get a Coke, brb. ;o)
14. Who hit us with "Stones"?

Answer: Neil Diamond

This was a Double-Sided hit w/"Crunchy Granola Suite" on the flip. (Ever eat a Pine Tree?) #138 for the year.
15. Who did "Hot Pants Pt 1 (She Got to Use What She Got to Get What She Wants)"? Yes that is the Title!

Answer: James Brown

#111, I won't make them all tough.
16. Who figured out "Two Divided by Love"?

Answer: The Grass Roots

#140.. But they can't all be easy either.
17. Who gave us the story of "Timothy"?

Answer: The Buoys

#136. Like Oldies? da.. Check out Lost45s.com! but even better check into XM Radio! I can't tell you what you're missing!
18. Who advised "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)?

Answer: The Temptations

Karen & Richard's "Superstar" was a different song, a #2 and #17 for the year. The Temps song was #144 for the year. My Top Three for 1971 are #3 "Maggie May", #2 "Joy to the World", #1 "American Pie" if you cared to know.
19. Who tried to get attention with "Hey Big Brother"?

Answer: Rare Earth

War did "Me & Baby Brother". See 1972 for Little Jimmy Osmond's "Long Haired Lover from Liverpool" This Rare Earth title was #158 for the year.
20. "Only You Know and I Know" was the secret of.. ?

Answer: Delaney and Bonnie

#166; if you're lucky your classic rock station plays this every once and a while.
21. Who came of age with "Eighteen"?

Answer: Alice Cooper

This dedicated golfer (I kid you not) was #152 with this classic! Janis Ian's "At 17" is from 1975. Winger had "17" many years later.
22. Who hit us with their "Double Barrel"?

Answer: Dave & Ansil Collins

#151; Kiss had "Love Gun" and I am running out of ammunition. Now I know why most quizzes are 10 questions.
23. Who paid with "Blue Money"?

Answer: Van Morrison

#156; really a great record!, I'm a chart geek but it really has little to do with the quality of the song.
24. Who exposed us to "One Fine Morning"?

Answer: Lighthouse

#163, Lots of Brass!
25. Who's First Hit was "If Not for You"?

Answer: Olivia Newton-John

#155; the first we heard from this sweet miss from 'down under'.
I doubt I had more fun than you; stay tuned for 1972!
