The Chords were a doo-wop band that formed in the early 1950s. They have often been credited as being one of the first R&B music groups to ever hit the pop charts.

Answer: The Bobbettes

The Bobbettes were originally known as "The Harlem Queens" prior to becoming successful with their hit "Mr. Lee". They had other hits such as "I Shot Mr. Lee" and "You Are My Sweetheart", however, these never reached the top of the charts like "Mr. Lee". "Mr. Lee" became a success once again in the 1980s as it appeared on the movie soundtrack for "Stand By Me".
