Answer: Larry Verne

Billboard number one, Oct 10, 1960. Verne was from Minneapolis, and did write one other song, called "Mr. Livingston" which topped out at #75 on Billboard.
2. "Last Night" made it into the Top 10 in the summer of 1961 for this group.

Answer: The Mar-Keys

Billboard number three, August 7, 1961. The group were actually a bunch of studio session players from Memphis Tennessee. They can be heard on many songs recorded on the Stax label. In the 70's, two members, Steve Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn formed "The Blues Brothers Band". Yes, it is the same band that appeared in the movie.
3. This group of ladies who later would have hits under another name, had a Top 20 hit in 1962 with "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman". Which group was it?

Answer: The Blue-Belles

Billboard number 15, June 2, 1962. The group was originally named The Ordettes. Yes, it was Patti Labelle's (born Patricia Holt) name which was used for this hit. Another member of the group, Cindy Birdsong, left in 1967 to join The Supremes, but "LaBelle" continued to have hits into the 70's, notably "Lady Marmalade" in 1975.

Billboard number two, Aug 10, 1963. Formed in 1963 in Glendora California, the band is credited with recording what came to be known as the surfing anthem with "Wipe Out", which actually was the B-side recording of a song called "Surfer Joe".

Billboard number 28, June 12, 1965. The song actually made it to #1 in the UK, but in the US, inexplicably, there was a cover version released at the same time by Eddie Rambeau (produced by Bob Crewe) which actually made it to #35, also qualifying it as a One Hit Wonder.
7. Capitalizing on the new dances crazes, "Cool Jerk" came to us in 1966. Who laid down this track?

Billboard number seven, July 2, 1966. Originally from Detroit Michigan, this group was initally called The Caps. After "Cool Jerk" they had a few minor releases which could not duplicate their first success. They broke up in 1969.

Billboard number five, July 8, 1967. A "garage rock" band from Mansfield, Ohio, they were discovered by Jerry Kasenetz, and Jeff Katz, who were pioneers in the "Bubble Gum" music phenomena of the late 60's.
9. "Reach Out Of The Darkness" was a Top 10 hit in 1968 for this duo. What were their names?

Billboard number ten, June 22, 1968. This husband and wife duo of Jim and Cathy Post recorded the song with Ray Stevens and Joe South doing background. Later on, the act broke up. So did the marriage.
10. This novelty comic medley which squeaked into the Top 40 in 1969, concerned a trip to the moon. Which personality put "Moonflight" together?

Answer: Vik Venus

Billboard number 38, August 9, 1969. While all these had comedy hits, it was Venus (aka Jack Spector) who was a well known DJ on various radio stations in New York in the 60's and beyond, who put this together. Spector passed away in 1994.
