Alabama's Randy Owen (lead vocals/guitar), wrote the words and music to "Mountain Music", taking three years to complete, reflecting his life growing up in Ft. Payne, Alabama.

Released as the first single in January of 1982 off of the "Mountain Music" album, it became Alabama's sixth number one song on Billboard's Country Singles Chart in 1982.

"Mountain Music" was Alabama's second music video, preceded by "Feels So Right" of 1981.
