Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Complete this lyric: "Blue __________, Teardrops are falling from your __________ Please, please don't cry This is just adios and not good-bye. Soon, I'll return Bringing you all the love your heart can hold"

Answer: Spanish eyes

Engelbert first recorded "Spanish Eyes" by Charles Singleton, Eddie Snyder and Bert Kaempfert on his 1968 album "A Man Without Love."

"Angel Eyes" has been recorded by, among others, Frank Sinatra and the great Ella Fitzgerald. It was written in 1946 by Earl Brent and Matt Dennis.

"Ebony Eyes" is a 1961 song written by John D. Loudermilk and recorded by the Everly Brothers. Though the record only reached number eight in the U.S., both "Ebony Eyes" and the flip side, "Walk Right Back" topped the British chart. This feat is all the more remarkable since the BBC banned "Ebony Eyes" as having lyrics too upsetting to be played on the radio.

I've never come across a song called "Crying Eyes," though several songs have "cry" or "crying" in the title.
2. From what song do these lyrics come? "Pardon the way that I stare There's nothing else to compare The sight of you leave me weak There are no words left to speak"

Answer: Can't Take My Eyes off You

"Can't Take My Eyes Off You" is from Engelbert's album "A Man without Love" (1968). It was written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio.

"I Only Have Eyes for You" was written by Harry Warren and Al Dubin in 1934. The song has enjoyed continuous popularity as a Jazz and Pop standard, with perhaps its most recognizable recording being that by the Flamingos in 1959.

"The Look of Love" was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It has been recorded by, among others, Dusty Springfield and Sergio Mendez & Brasil 66.

"My Eyes Adored You" by Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan was a 1974 hit for Frankie Vali. As far as I know, Engelbert has not recorded any of these three songs.
3. Complete this lyric: "__________ Baby's got __________ When the morning comes I'll be far away"

Answer: blue eyes

"Blue Eyes" is on "The Winding Road" (2007). Elton John and Gary Osborne wrote it.

"Green Eyes" was written in Spanish by Adolfo Utrera and Nilo Menéndez in 1929. Given English lyrics in 1931 by Eddie Rivera and Eddie Woods, the song is best known from the recording made in 1941 by Jimmy Dorsey and his Orchestra with vocals by Bob Eberly and Helen O'Connell. This record spent twenty-one weeks on the U.S. Billboard chart, peaking at Number One. The flip side, "Maria Elena," also became a Number One hit.

"Bright Eyes" was written by Mike Batt for the 1978 British animated film adaptation of Richard Adams' 1972 novel "Watership Down." Art Garfunkel recorded the song for the movie's soundtrack. It was released on UK and European versions of Art's 1979 "Fate for Breakfast" and on the US release of his 1981 album "Scissors Cut." "Bright Eyes" was the biggest selling single of 1979 in the UK.

"Dark Eyes" is a Russian folk song.

Incidentally, Engelbert's eyes are green.

Answer: Can't You See

Perhaps most memorably recorded by the American Jazz trumpeter and singer Chet Baker in 1954, "Look for the Silver Lining" was written in 1919 by Buddy De Sylva and Jerome Kern. "Brown Eyes, Why Are You Blue?" is a 1925 song by Alfred Bryan and George W. Meyer. "I'm Beginning to See the Light" is a Jazz standard by Duke Ellington, Harry James, Don George and Johnny Hodges.
