The oldest child of famous crooner, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra cultivated the image of a tough, no nonsense teen rebel. She had a few hits in the 60s, as well as a fairly respectable movie career that paired her with Elvis Presley in 'Speedway'.

Answer: Good Vibrations

Released on Nov 17/66, "Good Vibrations" was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love. It was a huge hit for the Beach Boys, spending an an amazing thirteen weeks on the charts, two of those weeks in the number one position.

The Supremes were riding high in the 60s, with 5 number one hits in 1964 alone. Things slowed down a little after that, but they did chart 7 more number one hits in the next 4 years. "You Can't Hurry Love", written by Motown's writing team of Holland, Dozier and Holland, was one of these hits.

Answer: California Dreamin'

Cass Elliott, Michelle Phillips, Denny Doherty and John Phillips were The Mamas and the Papas, a 60's folk group known for their harmonies. This was the first song they released, which peaked at number 4 on the charts. Writing credit was given to John and Michelle Phillips.

Answer: The Last Train to Clarksville

The Monkees were a fabricated group, brought together as the American answer to the Beatles. Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork, Davey Jones and Michael Nesmith were given their own television show, and songs from the best writers available at the time. "The Last Train to Clarksville" (about soldiers leaving for Viet Nam) was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, and was a hit before the first show was ever aired.

Written by John Phillips, "Monday, Monday" was the second song released by The Mamas and the Papas, and their first song to hit number one. Only together for 3 years, the group managed to have close to 20 chart hits.

Originally called the Four Aims, they changed their name to the Four Tops, to avoid being confused with the Ames Brothers. "Reach Out, I'll Be There" was their second number one song.

Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield were playing in a band called The Paramount. After a show one night, an African-American marine in the audience shouted "That was righteous, brothers". This was remembered when Medley and Hatfield formed their own duet. "Soul and Inspiration", written by Barry Mann and Cynthis Weil, was their last top ten hit of the 60s.

"Cherish" was written by the keyboard player of the group The Association to play at live performances. He fired it off in about half an hour, giving the band its second big hit (the first being "Along Comes Mary".) Within two months of its release, "Cherish" had sold over a million copies.

Army Staff Sargent Barry Sadler was a medic in Viet Nam who was injured during a tour of duty there. While he was recovering, he and Robin Moore put their heads together and came up with this number one hit, which Sadler performed.
