Answer: Karma Chameleon

With writing credit going to band members George O'Dowd, John Moss, Michael Craig, Roy Hay and Phil Pickett, "Karma Chameleon" was a huge, number one hit for Culture Club. Flamboyant lead singer, Boy George, added to the group's notoriety with his blantant cross-dressing and his problems with drug dependency.

Answer: Ghostbusters

Written and performed by Ray Parker Junior for the movie of the same name, "Ghostbusters" earned an Oscar nomination for Parker for Best Music, Original Song. It was a number one hit on both the Pop and R&B charts. Unfortunately Huey Lewis brought a lawsuit against Parker, claiming that the song was too much like his song "I Want a New Drug". Parker and Lewis settled out of court.

Over and above his wonderfully successful career with the Commodores, Lionel Ritchie had 22 top ten hits of his own, 12 of them between the years of '81 and '87. "Hello" sold almost 100 million copies, and was one of a string of number one hits that Ritchie charted every year for nine consecutive years.

Yes formed in London in 1968, and by the early '70s had made their mark as one of the best progressive rock bands on the scene. Unfortunately many feel that even though they have endured for many years, their best music was from that era. Off of their "90125" album, "Owner of a Lonely Heart" was one of their biggest later hits, with writing credit given to Rabin/Anderson/Squire/Horn.

Van Halen got their big break when Gene Simmons (of Kiss fame) saw them performing in a club one night. He was so impressed that he paid for them to record a demo, and helped see that it was heard by the right people. Things really started taking off for them with the release of their "1984" album, which contained the number one hit single "Jump".

"Say Say Say", written by McCartney, was the second duet released by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. The first was "The Girl is Mine", which was written by Jackson. Their collaboration was brief, because shortly after this record was released Jackson purchased Northern Songs, which included the publishing rights to the Beatles songs. McCartney tells a story of asking Jackson for an increase in royalty rates and being turned down.

Kenny Loggins has sometimes been referred to as the 'King of the movie soundtrack song', because he has had quite a bit of success writing and performing songs for movies. "Footloose", which appeared in the movie of the same name, earned Loggins a nomination for the Oscar for Best Music, Original Song.

"Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" was written and performed by Phil Collins for the movie of the same name. Collins also received an Oscar nomination for Best Music, Original Song, which put him in competition with "Footloose" and "Ghostbusters".

The song that actually won the award that year was "I Just Called to Say I Love You", written and performed by Stevie Wonder for the movie "The Woman in Red".

Born Anna Mae Bullock, Tina Turner started her career singing in a band with Ike Turner, the man who would become her husband. Fleeing an abusive marriage, she divorced Ike in the mid '70s. By the mid 80s she was back on top, with a string of hit singles that included "What's Love Got to Do With It", which held the number one spot for 3 weeks.
