Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The saxophone is a brass instrument.

Answer: false

Even though it is made of metal, it uses a reed, so it is a woodwind.
2. The bass clarinet is the absolute lowest clarinet voice.

Answer: false

The contra bass is usually considered the lowest clarinet voice. However, it is not often found in school bands - there you will most likely only find the bass clarinet.
There have been even lower clarinets made, but not for 'real' use.
3. Which of the following does NOT use a reed?

Answer: Flute

The flute uses a direct stream of air and has no use for a reed.
4. The triangle is a percussion instrument.

Answer: true

Even though it doesn't seem like it is, the triangle is used quite often in musical arrangements.
5. Which is NOT a common type of saxophone?

Answer: Contra Bass

The contra bass is more common for clarinets than the saxophone.
6. The trombone is the only brass instrument without buttons to press.

Answer: false

The trombone along with a few others, including the bugle, uses other things instead of buttons to manipulate sound.
7. In marching band, oboes and bassoons are not commonly used.

Answer: true

They aren't commonly used in marching bands, but are sometimes used at a band director's discretion.
8. One of the better ways to be good in band is to practice.

Answer: True

Like the saying says, "practice makes perfect"or "permanent" as my band director says.
9. Violins and cellos are generally found in wind ensembles.

Answer: false

Violins and cellos are generally found in orchestras.
10. The euphonium is another name for the baritone.

Answer: false

Although they are very similar, the baritone and the euphonium are different instruments.
