"Black Sabbath is credited with creating heavy metal. The success of their first two albums - Black Sabbath and Paranoid - marked a paradigm shift in the world of rock. Not until Black Sabbath upended the music scene did the term "heavy metal" enter the popular vocabulary to describe the denser, more thunderous offshoot of rock over which they presided. " Credited to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame web site.
6. Who wrote "N.I.B."?

Answer: Geezer Butler

Has to be one of Sabbath's biggest hits of all time - appears on their self-titled first release. Sometimes known as "Nativity In Black". The title refers to drummer Bill Ward's beard. The band called him "Nibby" because they thought it looked like the nib on the end of a pen (Ozzy came up with the nickname when he was stoned). Says Geezer Butler: "Originally it was Nib, which was Bill's beard.

When I wrote 'N.I.B.', I couldn't think of a title for the song, so I just called it Nib, after Bill's beard. To make it more intriguing I put punctuation marks in there to make it 'N.I.B.' By the time it got to America, they translated it to 'Nativity In Black'." (thanks, Greg - Triad, NC)
7. What was Ronnie James Dio's first musical instrument?

Answer: Trumpet

The trumpet is the only instrument that Ronnie has had formal training on. His father also helped him to learn the trumpet. Ronnie can also play the Saxophone, bass, guitar and keyboards. I've been told he can sing pretty well, too.
8. Where was Iommi born?

Answer: Aston, Birmingham, England

Iommi rose up from humble beginnings in an industrial town to become one of the greatest guitarists alive today.
9. What is unusual about Tony Iommi's guitar playing?

Answer: He was born right handed, but learned to use his left hand to play.

Due to an accident as a sheet metal worker, the finger tips for Iommi's right hand were sliced off. He was told that he could never play the guitar again. Instead of giving up, he developed special tips to cover the missing parts, and trained himself to play left-handed instead of right-handed.
10. What is John Osbourne's birth date?

Answer: December 3, 1948

Ozzy was born in the same town as Tony Iommi.
