Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Everybody's wearing a disguise, To hide what they've got left behind their eyes"

Answer: Abandoned Love

"Abandoned Love" is a track that was unreleased until "Biograph," in 1985. It's a great song, I like the dichotomy of the upbeat 3/4 tempo mixed with Dylan's dour view of love.
2. "The blacks and the whites, the idiotic, the exotic, wealth is a filthy rag"

Answer: Band of the Hand

From the soundtrack of the 1986 movie of the same name. The movie was produced by Michael Mann, of "Miami Vice" fame, and directed by Paul Michael Glaser(Hutch, from TV's Starsky and Hutch). It is a true Eighties movie, more style than substance.
3. "Renegade priests and treacherous witches, were handing out the flowers that I'd given to you"

Answer: Changing of the Guards

This is the first track on "Street Legal," released in 1978. It is not regarded as one of Dylans better albums by critics or fans, but I have always had a strong affinity for it. Maybe it's the back-up singers.
4. "Preacher was a talkin' theres a sermon he gave, He said every man's conscience is vile and depraved"

Answer: Man in the Long Black Coat

In 1989 Dylan released "Oh Mercy," and it marked the end of a six year slump. I've always suspected that the Man in the Long Black Coat was actually Randall Flag from the Stephen King novels.
5. "I have gone from rags to riches, in the sorrow of the night"

Answer: Every Grain of Sand

"Every Grain of Sand" is the last track on "Shot of Love," released in 1981. It marks the end of Dylans Christian albums. I first heard this song on "Biograph," and it caused me to go out and get the album.
6. "She's a junkyard angel and she brings me bread"

Answer: From a Buick Six

"Well if i go down dyin', you know she bound to put a blanket on my bed." This is my favorite track on "Highway 61," released in 1965.
7. "I've just reached a place, Where the willow don't bend"

Answer: Going, Going, Gone

"Planet Waves," released in 1974, is the Dylans first album playing with The Band. The Band is, in my opinion, the best band to play behind Dylan. There was a great chemistry between them.
8. "I can write you poems, make a strong man lose his mind, I'm no pig without a wig, I hope you treat me kind"

Answer: High Water(For Charlie Patton)

I couldn't do a Bob Dylan quiz without including his new material. "Love and Theft," released in 2001, is the first album since "Before the Flood" to feature Dylan's touring band. I saw that line-up in Nashville in 2003 and they were excellent.
9. "To her, death is quite romantic she wears an iron vest, Her profession's her religion, Her sin is her lifelessness"

Answer: Desolation Row

"On the slow train time does not interfere & at the Arabian crossing waits White Heap, the man from the newspaper & behind him the hundred Inevitables made of solid rock and stone..." I have no idea what this means, but it is the opening line of the liner notes for 1965's "Highway 61 Revisited."
10. "Once I had a sweetheart, she was fine and good'lookin', We sat in her kitchen while her Mama was cookin'"

Answer: Time Passes Slowly

"New Morning," releasd in 1970, was Dylan's second album of that year. The first was "Self Portrait." The early Seventies was a prolific time for Dylan, he released seven albums between 1970 and 1974.
