Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "When he takes you babe, when he loves you babe, my whole world comes apart." Yeah, we've all gone through that feeling, but which song is it?

Answer: Wrong or Right

The Babys, with John Waite as lead singer, were an English band who had little success in their home country and relocated to America to record their self titled debut album and then this breakthrough second album which contained the worldwide hit "Isn't It Time?" The album was released in 1977.
2. "Don't look at me like you can't stand it, I'm in the mood for love." What guitar driven song is this lyric from? John Waite's vocal really 'soars' on this.

Answer: And If You Could See Me Fly

"Broken Heart" was produced by Ron Nevison who had previously worked with such bands as Led Zeppelin, The Who and Bad Company. This accounts for the quasi-heavy rock sound on "And If You Could See Me Fly."
3. "Talking 'bout a silver spoon, and money, stocks and shares, and daddy's little sweetheart and private affairs." What social issue song is this?

Answer: Rescue Me

This song is about alcohol addiction and the unfortunate addict is a wealthy, privileged, "daddy's little sweetheart." Lead guitarist Wally Stocker provides some killer fills on this song as he does throughout this album.
4. "If I had the peace of mind I'd catch a plane and move away. Far away from you and the things you say." What stunning, totally forgotten about, perfect ballad contains this lyric?

Answer: I'm Falling

A great ballad and a song which radio stations playing classic rock should include on their song list. Never gets played, at least here in Australia. This song got tons of airplay at the time of the album's release so why not give it another go all you Aussie radio program directors out there? This is the only song on the album co-written by John Waite and fellow band member Michael Corby.
5. "Give me your hands, oh babe I wanna feel your touch." You can almost feel the sexual tension when listening to John Waite deliver this line from what track on side one?

Answer: Give Me Your Love

And an equally sexy keyboard intro by Michael Corby whose full name is Michael John Siddins-Corby and who helped form the initial band lineup back in England.
6. "At home on the boulevard, cheap whisky and Tarot cards, man she's outrageous." Not sure if she's a femme fatale or just a self centred gold digger but it's a great song. What's it called?

Answer: Broken Heart

One of two songs on "Broken Heart" with sole authorship by John Waite. The other is the opening track "Wrong Or Right." Waite went on to be a successful solo artist after The Babys and his biggest solo hit was "Missing You", released in 1984.
7. "If I had the time to look hard at you, the things I know I'd find, the things I'd have to do." From the moment you first hear this gem, you'll 'fall' for it. What great side two song is this?

Answer: I'm Falling

Had to quote from this song for the second time in this quiz because it's a little masterpiece of a ballad. Are you reading this out there in radioland? The Babys' third album "Head First" would prove to be their last. Co-writer of "I'm Falling", Michael Corby, left the band before completion of the album. Thankfully, we have "Broken Heart" as a lasting legacy.
8. "I've got no money, couldn't spare a dime, I've got the plan, if you've got the time.". This song is a great 'piece.' What's its title.

Answer: A Piece Of The Action

This is the last song on the album, Wally Stocker again prominent on guitar with a simple but effective riff in its fade out. The album was recorded at Hidden Valley Ranch and The Record Plant, Los Angeles.
9. "For the last year I've been searching, I needed someone to believe, I'm a gambler with my fortune, trying to keep you up my sleeve." What 'musician out on the road and leaving behind a girlfriend while he's out touring" lament does this lyric appear in?

Answer: Silver Dreams

Lead vocal on this is by drummer Tony Brock ably backed by Lisa Freeman Roberts, Pat Henderson and Myrna Matthews, three background vocalists appropriately titled The Babettes. They pop up here and there on this album.
10. "Falling in love was the last thing I had on my mind, holding you was the warmth that I thought I could never find." Mega hit, mega great. Isn't it time you got an easy song lyric to answer correctly?

Answer: Isn't It Time?

Could not possibly end the quiz without a line from this monster smash hit which still gets radio play and justifiably so. Producer Ron Nevison gets a great sound out of the horn arrangements and The Babette's backing vocals are superb. Funky, brassy and sassy in the chorus and tender in the verses this is simply a great song.
