1. Who wrote and recorded the lyrics to the song "4th of July": "You were pretty as can be, sitting in the front seat, Looking at me, telling me you love me, And you're happy to be With me on the 4th of July"?

Answer: Shooter Jennings

In an interview, Shooter affirmed that he and his girlfriend rented an RV and drove to Texas for Willie Nelson's 4th of July picnic. He stated, "When I came back there was a point where we were having some problems, so I wrote this song that reflected back on that time." Jennings included it on his debut album, "Put the 'O' Back in Country" (2005).
2. Who was the "Godfather" who sang these lively lyrics? "Living in America - eye to eye, station to station Living in America - hand to hand, across the nation Living in America - got to have a celebration"

Answer: James Brown

James Brown, notably known as "The Godfather of Soul", charted a top ten hit with this single in 1985. He performed the song on the hit boxing film "Rocky IV" (1985). He was honored with the Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for the song in 1987.
3. Who sang the riveting lyrics to the patriotic ballad below? "Everywhere around the world, They're coming to America. Every time that flag's unfurled, They're coming to America"

Answer: Neil Diamond

Diamond wrote and recorded this fabulous hit single in 1981, that reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was released on his album, "The Jazz Singer" in 1980. The song paid homage to all immigrants who risked their lives by coming to America for a new beginning.

They also gave us ideas and innovations, which helped to advance our country. It is still a favorite song for an Independence Day celebration.
4. What American country beauty took "Independence Day" by storm with these lyrics? "Let the weak be strong, Let the right be wrong. Roll the stone away, Let the guilty pay, It's Independence Day"

Answer: Martina McBride

Because the subject matter of the song conflicted with radio executives, it did not reach number one on the charts; however, it almost made the top ten. It contained lyrics concerning domestic violence and its effect on a small-town family. McBride released the single in 1993 off her album, "The Way That I Am". It won "Video of the Year" from the Country Music Association
Awards. "Independence Day" had originally been offered to singer Faith Hill.
5. Which all-male quartet made these lyrics well known? "My baby is American made, Born and bred in the U.S.A. From her silky long hair to her sexy long legs, My baby is American made"

Answer: The Oak Ridge Boys

These lyrics conflicted with a Miller beer ad because of similar wording when it was released in January 1983. However, it did make the charts and it became a popular song. Country music radio stations air the song frequently around the Fourth of July holiday. The Oak Ridge Boys included Duane Allen, William Lee Golden, Joe Bonsall and Richard Sterban.
6. From which rock band would you hear these lyrics being sung? "American woman, get away from me. American woman, mama let me be. Don't come knockin' around my door, Don't wanna see your shadow no more"

Answer: The Guess Who

It is not the words that make it such a popular celebration song, but its rhythmic beat. Some have claimed that the woman referred to in the song was the Statue of Liberty. The Guess Who, a Canadian band, released their album with the same title in January 1970. It was later recorded by rocker Lenny Kravitz in 1999.
7. Which singer took these lyrics to the top in 1984? "Born in the U.S.A., I was born in the U.S.A., Born in the U.S.A., I'm a cool rocking daddy in the U.S.A."

Answer: Bruce Springsteen

Springsteen's self-titled album became a best-seller in the United States in 1985. The lyrics were controversial because it dealt with the war in Vietnam. However, the lyrics above became a popular sing-a-long whether you were at a party or singing on your own. It is still one of the most popular songs played at any Fourth of July bash.
8. Which famous American country musician wrote and released these lyrics? "We'll the eagle's been flying slow, And the flag's been flying low, And a lot of people's saying that America's fixing to fall. But speaking just for me, and some people from Tennessee, We got a thing or two to tell you all"

Answer: Charlie Daniels

According to the many songs he has written, Country and southern rocker Charlie Daniels never shied away from penning what he felt. He did this regardless of what other people or countries thought. "In America" was released in the late 70s and illustrated the patriotic people of a united America. Daniels visited our troops on several occasions in Iraq where he recorded a live album, "Charlie Daniels: Live in Iraq", in 2007.

"We'll all stick together
and you can take that to the bank.
That's the cowboys and the hippies,
and the rebels and the yanks".
9. From which patriotic person would you hear these all-time favorite classic lyrics? "And I'm proud to be an American Where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men who died, Who gave that right to me. And I gladly stand up next to you And defend her still today, 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA"

Answer: Lee Greenwood

If there were ever a patriotic song that would prompt an American to stand and salute, it would be Greenwood's "God Bless the USA". He first released it in 1984 when it peaked at number seven on the country charts. It was not nationally recognized until the beginning of the Gulf War.

Its popularity was revitalized after the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York's Twin Towers and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and during the Iraq Invasion in 2003.
10. Which legendary singer recited these exceptional lyrics? "So we raise her up every morning And we bring her down every night. We don't let her touch the ground, And we fold her up right. On second thought, I do like to brag, 'Cause I'm mighty proud of that ragged old flag"

Answer: Johnny Cash

Cash wrote "Ragged Old Flag" and put it on his 1974 album, "The Essential Johnny Cash". With only a patriotic instrumental gently playing in the background of his recitation, Cash exemplified everything that America stood for. It was as if he took us back to some of America's battlefields in his lyrics just by listening to him. That's how powerful it was! After the terrorist attacks on America in 2001, the album was re-issued on CD.

I extend to everyone at Fun Trivia a happy and safe 4th of July.
Now, Turn the music up and let's get this party started!
