Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song was covered by R.E.M. on the compilation album, "Beat the Retreat"?

Answer: "Wall of Death," Richard Thompson

The Richard Thompson tribute album "Beat the Retreat" was initially recorded in the 1990s. It was rereleased in 2006.

Just by coincidence, there is also a song called "Wall of Death" by Murphy's Law. That is not a cover of the Thompson track, but a completely different song, original to Murphy's Law.
2. What reggae artist gave a nod to his friend and influence Bob Marley, with a track that borrowed the backing music or "riddim" from Marley's "Duppy Conqueror"?

Answer: Lee Perry, "Yes My Friends"

Perry has worked as a musician and producer since the 1950s. He is also known as "the Upsetter," and lives in Switzerland with his family. His given name is Rainford Hugh Perry.
3. On their 1986 album "Murphy's Law," New York punk rockers Murphy's Law stepped up to cover what Iggy Pop song?

Answer: I Got a Right

Iggy and the Stooges' original version appeared on their album, "Raw Power."

"Murphy's Law" was the second album by that group; their version of "I Got a Right" is the final track on it.
4. What Joy Division song did Moby cover on the soundtrack to the movie "Heat"?

Answer: New Dawn Fades

The violent thriller was released in 1995. Moby's scalding version of the track is one of relatively few on which he has featured primarily non-electronic instruments.
5. Who took a run at the Human League song "Open Your Heart," on the tribute album "Reproductions"?

Answer: Ladytron

Ladytron formed in Liverpool, England. Their name is taken from the song "Ladytron," by Roxy Music.
6. What Roxy Music song did Grace Jones record for her 1980 covers album, "Warm Leatherette"?

Answer: Love is the Drug

Jones released a whole album of covers. Her version of the title track, The Normal's "Warm Leatherette," would supplant the original in popularity on U.S. radio stations.
7. Whose version of Blondie's "Atomic" appeared on the first volume of the soundtrack to the movie "Trainspotting"?

Answer: Sleeper

The group had once been named Surrender Dorothy, after the Wicked Witch's skywriting in "The Wizard of Oz." Following the band's breakup in the late 1990s, vocalist Louise Wener became a novelist.
8. What Black Sabbath song graced Pantera's album "Far Beyond Driven"?

Answer: Planet Caravan

The slow song was something of a twist, compared to Pantera's usual intense sound. The group acknowledged this, advising in the liner notes that if listeners didn't like the idea, they should "not listen" to the track. They needn't have worried: the single reached the Top 30 in the U.S. and U.K.
9. What song did The Cure play on the 1998 Depeche Mode tribute album, "For the Masses"?

Answer: World in My Eyes

The original appeared on the 1990 album "Violator." It was also featured on the 2006 Depeche Mode live album, "Touring the Angel."
10. What Misfits songs did Metallica record for the album "Garage Days Re-Revisited"?

Answer: Last Caress & Green Hell

The Misfits hailed from New Jersey. Metallica would later cover another of their songs, "Die, Die, My Darling"; this track appears on the 1998 Metallica album, "Garage Inc."
