Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which song does this come from: "Baby's black balloon makes her fly"?

Answer: Black Balloon

Pretty self-explanatory.
2. Name a song on the album whose song title does NOT appear in the lyrics of the song.

Answer: Iris

"Iris" is one and the others are "Hate This Place" and "Acoustic #3." These are my favorite tracks on the album.
3. Which song has the word "monochrome" in it?

Answer: Dizzy

The full lyric is "You're cynical and beautiful, you always make a scene, You're monochrome delirious, You're nothing what you seem." The Dolls (or Johnny Rzeznik) are known for descriptive lyrics.
4. Finish this lyric: "Dreamed to be complete, Little pieces of a nothing that fall, Oh May..."

Answer: put your arms around me

Later in the song, however, he does ask May if she wants to get married...which I think is atypical for a rock song.
5. Seven of the tracks on "Dizzy Up the Girl" has the word "lie" or "lies" in it. Which of the following does NOT?

Answer: Slide

The answer is "Slide", which is ironic since it's about a girl who is deceitful to the authority around her.
6. True or false: The song "Iris" is named after Johnny Rzeznik's aunt.

Answer: False

Rumor had it that it was named after country singer-songwriter Iris DeMent and that her name appeared in a newspaper when the Dolls were looking for a chorus. However, Funtrivia member goofanbecky tells us "Johnny just did it to be 'pretentious.' He said that is Billy Corgan could do it, so could he." FYI: Sarah McLachlan named the song "Adia" after her aunt.
7. True or false: The Dolls performed at the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Answer: True

Yep, on February 22, 2002. Despite extreme tempratures and technical difficulties, they rocked the crowd for and hour and a half--a half hour past what was scheduled. Johnny yelled over the crowd "We are the Goo Goo Dolls! We are from Buffalo. This is NOT cold!"
8. Finish the lyric (next four words): "They painted up your secrets, With the lies they told to you. Ane the least..."

Answer: they ever gave you

The full lyric is "They painted up your secrets, With the lies they told to you, And the least they ever gave you, Was the most you ever knew."
9. Which song title is a one word sentence?

Answer: Amigone

This is a torrid song about being in a love affair that is out of control and facing the blame, denial, and self-destructive behavior that can erase someone off the planet.
10. Finish the lyric: "Everytime you point your finger, Three more point right back at you, I'm not saying that it's something wrong with life..."

Answer: 'Cause that's a sad excuse
