Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From "ELO I" or "No Answer" "The King of the castle brought her to her knees Gave the Salvation Army girl a squeeze"

Answer: Look at Me Now

ELO's first album was simply called "Electric Light Orchestra" in England, but when an American record executive's secretary was asked to call England to find out the name, she couldn't get through. She left for lunch and left a note for her boss with only two words on it. You guessed it, it read "No Answer".
2. From "ELO II" "Real mean that bullet machine"

Answer: Kuiama

"Electric Light Orchestra II" was the first ELO album without founding member Roy Wood who left the band and formed Wizzard. Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan would be the only two remaining members from the Move.
3. From "On the Third Day" "You gave me a sunny day Now it looks as if I'll pay"

Answer: Bluebird is Dead

On the cover of this album, the band is bearing their belly buttons and pointing to them. Bev Bevan was asked the reason for this and his answer was simply that the photographer had told them to.
4. From "Eldorado" "Doctor let me teach 'em"

Answer: Illusions in G Major

The first ELO "concept" album, the whole title is actually "Eldorado: A Symphony by the Electric Light Orchestra".
5. From "Face the Music" "I know, you know, they know, we all know Everybody's gonna burn down"

Answer: Poker

The backwards lyrics on "Fire On High" are "The music is reversible, but time is not. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back."
6. From "A New World Record" "There was to be a celebration On the mission of the Sacred Heart"

Answer: Mission (A New World Record)

In the same year as this album's release (1976), ELO also released "Ole ELO", a compilation of the greatest hits up to this point. The album had a promotional release copy that was pressed in clear gold vinyl.
7. From "Out of the Blue" "Come and join us if you so desire"

Answer: Jungle

Their only double album, "Out of the Blue" also had a promotional release copy in colored vinyl. It was, of course, blue. The mass market release came with a poster of the band and also a mobile shaped like their space ship.
8. From "Discovery" "She was small and she was very pretty"

Answer: The Diary of Horace Wimp

1978 came and went without an ELO album so "Discovery" was highly anticipated. Like most things, it did not live up to the anticipation, but created some controversy. Many Americans thought that one of the sounds in "Don't Bring Me Down" was the band singing "Bruce", a tribute to Bruce Springsteen.

This falsehood, which probably started in New Jersey (where I am from), was dimissed by all band members.
9. From "Time" "You brought me here but can you take me back again?"

Answer: Twilight

Another "concept" album, this one tells a story. It would be great to see this done as a rock opera. One interesting note, both of the "concept" albums begin with a narrative. "Eldorado" begins with "The Dreamer, the unwoken fool..." speech and "Time" with the robotic "Prologue" ("Just on the border of your waking mind...")
10. From "Secret Messages" "Sail Upon the Ocean Sail back to me"

Answer: Take Me On and On

Inside the album cover, the bounce lines issuing from the cherub's hand read "E-L-O" in morse code.
