Answer: Serbia

Eurovision Song Contest 2008 was the 53rd edition of the annual contest. It was held in Belgrade, Serbia as they won the previous year.
2. What was the name of the winning song?

Answer: Believe

Russia were declared winners as the winning song 'Believe' was won for them by Dima Bilan, scoring 272 points.
3. Which two countries made their debut that year?

Answer: Azerbaijan and San Marino

On the 21st December 2007 the EBU announced that 43 countries will be taking part in Eurovision 2008. Azerbaijan is the EBU's newest member. San Marino also made their debut, finishing 19th in the first semi-final.
4. Which country finished at the same place it presented their song?

Answer: Portugal

Portugal's entry 'Senhora du mar (Negras įguas)' was presented 13th and finished 13th with 69 points.
5. Which country participated in 2007 but withdrew from 2008's contest?

Answer: Austria

Austrian broadcaster ORF said that it had trouble in TV ratings for the contest in recent years, however, ORF did broadcast only the final.

Australian broadcaster SBS broadcast both the semi finals and the final. The first semi final was broadcast on Friday 23rd May, the second semi final was broadcast on Saturday 24th May and the final was broadcast on Sunday 25th May. All programmes were shown at 19:30 local time.

Answer: Armenia

Although finishing fourth, Armenia totaled up a number of eight '12 points', one more than winning country Russia with seven.

Belgium's entry 'O Julissi' was a folk song with made up lyrics. It did not make the final but the song topped the Belgian Ultratop chart.

The countries that sang entirely in English were: Moldova, Azerbaijan, Norway, Poland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Russia, Greece, Iceland, Sweden, Ukraine, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Belarus, Latvia, Bulgaria, Denmark, Georgia, Malta, FYR Macedonia, United Kingdom and Germany.

Israel, Andorra, Armenia, Hungary, France and Spain also sang in English, however, they also sang in another language within the song.
10. Which former winning Eurovision artist represented her country again this year?

Answer: Charlotte Perrelli (Nilsson)

Charlotte 'Nilsson' Perrelli won for Sweden in 1999 with the song 'Take Me to Your Heaven'. She won Melodifestivalen 2008, therefore got the chance to represent her country again with the song 'Hero'. Although getting through to the final by jury only, she only managed to finish 18th.
