Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many singles were released from the album?

Answer: 5

'Just Ace', 'Don't Go Away', 'Pedestrian', 'Repeat' and 'DCx3' were all released with the album. Just Ace was the most popular of all singles released, ranking at number 25 on the Aussie charts. Along with a standard release in 1997, DCx3 had a special release of 300 vinyl records in 1995, making it one of the rarest pieces of modern music-ware in the world.
2. 5 live songs are included in the Australian release of the album, at which music festival were these recorded?

Answer: Grudgefest

Their old record label, 'Grudge Records', held a promotional music festival for some of it's artists, and Grinspoon's 5 song performance was added to the album's track listing. The songs performed were 'More Than You Are', 'Freezer', 'Post Enebriated Anxiety', 'NBT' and 'Just Ace'.
3. What is the name of the hidden track at the end of the live version of 'Just Ace'?

Answer: Protest

Protest is a slow, soft song which features just one Acoustic Guitar. On Grinspoon's documentary DVD titled '23 Hours of Waiting Around', several live performances are offered, including one of the few live performances of Protest.
4. 'Guide to Better Living' was produced by whom?

Answer: Phil McKellar

Phillip McKellar also produced Grinspoon's third major album, 'New Detention'. McKellar also produced two EP's, 'Pushing Buttons' in 1998 and 'Panic Attack' in 2003.
5. On the back cover of the album, what are the band seen leaning on?

Answer: A car

The car is an old dark red Ford (correct me if I'm wrong!) from the 1970s. The scene appears to be in a residential area, with Phil leaning on the hood and Kris holding a beer.
6. Disregarding the live performances, Sickfest, Pressure Tested 1984, Champion and Post Enebriated Anxiety were all featured on previous albums (LP and/or EP) released by Grinspoon.

Answer: False

Pressure Tested 1984 was not released until the release of 'Guide to Better Living', however the others were. 'Sickfest' was released with Grinspoon's first self-titled EP, while 'Post Enebriated Anxiety' and 'Champion' were released with their second EP, 'Licker Bottle Cozy'.
7. One of the band members' names has incorrect spelling on the album information section. Who is it?

Answer: Joe Hansen

Joe Hansen's surname is spelled 'Hansend'. His name, much to his annoyance, has often been spelled correctly in various places. Another common spelling error in his name is 'Hanson'.
8. Where did Grinspoon get the idea for the album's name, 'Guide to Better Living'?

Answer: A handbook on household tips

The handbook was made by well-known kitchenware manufacturers, 'Sunbeam' in the 1960's. Also, the band's label on the front cover mimics the Sunbeam logo.
9. In the music video for 'Just Ace', where is the band performing?

Answer: A train station

The band is seen performing at the foot of a stairwell at a suburban subway station. In the video, the various bystanders seem puzzled at first, but eventually get into the song and create a 'mosh' around the band. This video is a showcase of how Phil Jamieson's fashion has changed since then.
10. At 'Big Day Out 2000', Grinspoon performed a song from 'Guide to Better Living', which one was it?

Answer: Champion

Another song that Grinspoon performed was 'Secrets', from their 1999 album, 'Easy'. The song 'More Than You Are', featured on the album is often performed live at shows, and is often a new sound for many fans unfamiliar with many of their older music.
