Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who sang this 1981 Eurovision Song Contest winning entry - "You gotta speed it up, then you gotta slow it down"?

Answer: Bucks Fizz

This was "Making Your Mind Up" by Bucks Fizz. Bucks Fizz were Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan, Jay Aston and Bobby G. The dance routine for this song had the girls ripping their longer skirts off, to reveal short ones! Katrina and the Waves won the Eurovision in 1997
2. Who sang this song, which has the same name as an Austrian city -"We walked in the cold air, freezing breath on a window pane"?

Answer: Ultravox

This 1981 hit for Ultravox, "Vienna", never made it to number one, it was kept off the top spot by Joe Dolce's "Shaddap you face".
3. Who asked us in 1980 "What the hell is wrong with you tonight? I can't seem to say or do the right thing"?

Answer: Joe Jackson

"It's different for Girls" got to number 5 in 1980 for Joe Jackson. He's not had much success in the UK singles chart, this was his highest position, but his songs are amazing! I would recommend the album "Stepping Out" or the newer "Volume 4".
4. Slowing things right down now, who sang "When I'm feeling blue, all I have to do is take a look at you"?

Answer: Phil Collins

"Groovy Kind Of Love" was a number one UK hit single in 1988 for Phil Collins. It was from the film, "Buster", which also starred Phil.
5. Which Scottish band sang "When I wake up yeah I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you"?

Answer: The Proclaimers

"I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)" was a hit for The Proclaimers in 1988, hard to believe this only got to number 11 though!
6. "I can't fight this feeling any longer, and yet I'm still afraid to let it flow" was the start of a 1985 hit for who?

Answer: REO Speedwagon

"Can't fight this feeling" was a hit for REO Speedwagon. Their other big hit in the UK was "Keep On Loving You".
7. Who sang this 1988 number 4 UK hit "I try to discover, a little something to make me sweeter"?

Answer: Erasure

The song was "A Little Respect" by Erasure. Vince Clark of Erasure was also in Yazoo with Alison Moyet.
8. "I love you from the bottom, of my pencil case" was a strange lyric, but who sang it in 1989?

Answer: Beautiful South

It was "Song for Whoever" by the Beautiful South. Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway from the Beatuful South were previously in the Housemartins, who sang "Caravan of Love"
9. Who told us in 1986 "I've had other guys, I've looked into their eyes"?

Answer: Madonna

It was of course Madonna singing "True Blue", which was a UK number 1 hit for her in 1986 - and was the first single I owned!
10. Who asked us "Do you remember chalk hearts melting on a playground wall?"

Answer: Marillion

"Kayleigh" was a hit for Marillion in 1985, the song got to number 2 in the UK charts. The lead singer at the time of this hit was Fish, who left the band in 1989 and was replaced by Steve Hogarth.
