Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A bunch of metal magazines celebrate the 10th birthday of a legendary grindcore band from Birmingham. This band actually exists since 1982, but only debuted in 1987. In 1996 they release their new album 'Diatribes'. What is the name of this band?

Answer: Napalm Death

There are several connections between these bands. Barney, from Napalm Death, was the first vocalist of Benediction. He also recorded an album with Extreme Noise Terror. Jesse Pintado started out in Terrorizer and ended up in Napalm Death.
(Thanks to Calvin2000 for pointing out to me the exact birthyear of Napalm Death)
2. Biohazzard is going through troublesome times: the hardcore public rejects them because they have become too famous, too mainstream. The band also has some line-up problems. One long time member has to leave the band. Who?

Answer: Bobby Hambel

Bobby Hambel played guitar and was replaced by Rob Echeverria.
3. It's June 1996 and all Metallica fans are celebrating, 'cause the band has finally come up with a new album, full of new songs (no covers or live recordings this time!). What's the name of this follow-up album to 'the black album'?

Answer: Load

A lot of fans were seriously disappointed though, as Metallica had changed their sound considerably.
4. A new year, a new band. Out of Sweden appears an all-female band with their debut album 'Horror Wrestling', full of grungy hardrock. They play a lot of summer festivals, enjoy a lot of coverage in magazines and even on MTV, but didn't turn out to be a huge success after all. What's the name of this band?

Answer: Drain

5. The guys from Slayer show their punk roots on their 1996 album 'Undisputed Attitude'. Around this time, Slayer is having problems finding a permanent drummer. Who plays the drums on 'Undisputed Attitude'?

Answer: Paul Bostaph

Paul Bostaph left Slayer immediatly after the recording of 'Undisputed Attitude'. Slayer then tested out several drummers and eventually Paul Bostaph returned and the band recorded two more albums with him. In Spring 2002, Paul Bostaph left the band again, this time because he was injured and couldn't play.

His replacement for the live gigs was no other then Dave Lombardo, who was the original Slayer drummer. I don't know what will happen after this, but I do know that most Slayer have wanted Dave Lombardo to return for years. So he will be more than welcomed.
6. Carcass calls it even. The ongoing troubles with their record label makes them decide to stop. However, they still release their last album, that was already recorded. What is the name of their last outing?

Answer: Swansong

Bill Steer (guitar) started the rockband Firebird and Jeff Walker (vocals, bass) recorded with Blackstar.

What is the name of this band?

Answer: Spiritual Beggars

Firebird is also a band that is founded by an ex-Carcass member (see question 6) and that also takes its musical influences from the seventies. Coincidence? You be the judge.
8. Reunion time (part I): Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon, the original members of the first black metal band ever, get together again. What's the name of their band?

Answer: Venom

9. Judas Priest has got a new frontman and singer. What is the name of this guy, who played in a Judas Priest tribute band before joining the real Judas Priest?

Answer: Tim Owens

Also known as 'The Ripper'.
10. When a black or death metal band turns gothic, success is in the air. Moonspell releases its second album 'Irreligious' and go on tour with Type O Negative. What country is Moonspell from?

Answer: Portugal

11. Florida deathsters Morbid Angel see their vocalist leave. What's the name of this guy who sings on 'Altars of Madness', 'Blessed are the Sick', 'Covenant' and 'Domination'?

Answer: David Vincent

Vincent was replaced by Tucker. David Vincent went on to play in his wife's band, Genitorturers.
12. Pantera fans panic: lead singer Phil Anselmo has only just escaped death. How? What was the cause of his near death?

Answer: A drug overdose

13. The marriage of death metal and Gothic is brought to a next level. On the album 'Theli', Christopher Johnsson and his comrades add choirs, classical instruments and sopranos to their melodic death metal. What is the name of the band?
