Ray was born to Aretha Williams and Bailey Robinson. Ray had a younger brother, George, who drowned when they were young boys.

Answer: McSon Trio

The McSon Trio ('MC'gee/robin'SON') began performing at the Elks Club in Seattle, Washington. It was about this time, according to Ray (in his biography, 'Brother Ray'), that he dropped his last name, "Robinson", as to not be confused with boxing legend Sugar Ray Robinson.

Quincy was just a teenager when he and Ray met in Seattle. Quincy Jones was a trumpet player at the time, but his heart was in writing Jazz music.
