They actually auditioned twice for the show, but didn't make it on the first time. The first time they auditioned they didn't classify themselves as country, the second time they did, and that earned them a place in the show. "The Sing-Off" competition was cancelled in 2015 do to poor ratings.

In their video "Good old Country Harmony" it shows them preforming at a school talent show, but they were actually formed in a collage in 2000. They actually got their band name "Home Free" from one of their founding members grandfather's boat, that was named "Home Free".

The Rupp brothers, as well as three others, founded the group in 2000. Elliot Robinson joined in 2008 but left in 2009. Rob Lundquist joined in 2008 as well. Tim Foust joined in 2012.
