Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Chains of love, got a hold on me.'

Answer: 'You Give Love a Bad Name' (Bon Jovi)

I thought I'd start off with the classic big hair stylings of Bon Jovi in their prime. A little extra trivia for all those BJ nuts: whats Jon's real surname? His family name is actually Bon Giovi, and his parents are Italian.
2. 'The punishment sometimes don't seem to fit the crime.'

Answer: 'Hole In My Soul' (Aerosmith)

A very underated Aerosmith song and my personal all-time favourite track. The video is also good; the class nerd starts to clone all these amazingly hot women because he can't get a girlfriend.
3. 'I don't know where I'm going, but I sure know where I've been.'

Answer: 'Here I go Again' (Whitesnake)

Ultimate road tune. If you don't believe me just slam a copy of this song into your car stereo and jam the volume up to full, drive through the countryside during a sunset, and just see whether I'm wrong.
4. 'You've got to roll with the punches and get to what's real.'

Answer: 'Jump' (Van Halen)

This was a bit out of character for Van Halen. The most poignant characteristic of this song was the keyboard riff and NOT Eddie Van Halen's guitar. Talent wasted, but still a rock anthem.
5. 'Empty lake, empty street, the sun goes down alone.'

Answer: 'Boys of Summer' (Don Henley)

Don Henley was, of course, the lead singer and the drummer with the Eagles. Personally, I don't think that ever worked in a live context; your drummer can't be your lead singer, as Phil Collins has also demonstrated with Genesis.
6. 'There's evil in the air, there's thunder in the sky and a killer's on the blood-shot streets.'

Answer: 'Bat Out of Hell' (Meatloaf)

Hands up- who knows Meatloaf's real name? It's Marvin! Marvin Lee.
7. 'Happy to do nothing, in fact that's what I did.'

Answer: 'Let's Get Rocked' (Def Leppard)

This is a lyric which for me (and I'm sure for a lot of people) reminds me very much of my adolescence.
8. 'Teenage bride with a baby inside getting high on information.'

Answer: 'Californication' (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

Possibly the best single lyric of all time in my opinion, but then again I did have to study post modernism for a year.
9. 'I ain't evil, I'm just good looking.'

Answer: 'Feed My Frankenstein' (Alice Cooper)

I've actually got a cool version of this song in which Rob Zombie sings on a live recording; originally the song was most definitely Alice's, so the lyrics are attributed to him.
10. 'I rang that bell with my heart in my mouth, I had to hear what he said.'

Answer: 'No Son of Mine' (Genesis)

One of the songs that only Phil Collins can truly perform to its full potential. Peter Gabriel had left by the time this was recorded and after Phil left the void was never filled. The guy that took over was good, but I saw them live and this track opened the show; it was sadly lacking something, I'm afraid. Does anyone remember the name of that most recent front man? (weird that)
11. 'Lovers always come and lovers always go and no one's really sure who's letting go today.'

Answer: 'November Rain' (Guns 'N Roses)

Slash, the GNR lead guitarist, seems to have performed with everyone. Wacko Jacko ('Give In to Me'), Alice Cooper on Alice's live album, and he's even done some RnB- what does he think he is, a rapper?
12. 'Moss grows fat on a rolling stone.'

Answer: 'American Pie' (Don McLean)

Ah, the old karaoke classics are coming out. If it weren't for 'I Will Survive', this song may well be the most hated song in history. As it is, it has retained its dignity (just) and is a rock classic.
13. 'L.A. told me, you'll be a pop-star. All you have to change, is everything you are.'

Answer: 'Don't Let Me Get Me' (Pink)

Pink had about four different hair styles in this video. Am I alone in thinking that the Mohawk looks the best?
14. Watch out here, this is a bit of a trick question. 'Well we don't sound like Madonna. Here we are now, we're Nirvana. Sing distinctly, we don't wanna. Buy our album, we're Nirvana. Yeah!'

Answer: 'Smells Like Nirvana' (Weird Al Yankovich)

This was a fantastic spoof version of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. If you ever get a chance to see the video for this song do, it is Weird Al at his best.
15. Okay, a tough one to finish: 'The clock keeps ticking and I keep on thinking about you (Lord), I'm trying to hold on but there's nothing left to hold on to.'

Answer: 'Father Time' (Ritchie Sambora)

It's from one of Ritchie's solo albums and an absolute ROCK classic, or should be. If you have never heard it, please do yourself a favour and find a copy.
