"A Day in the Life" was recorded between January and February 1967 and released on The Beatle's album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". It was mainly written by John Lennon, but when he wanted to add an upbeat stop he was stumped on how to write it.

He turned to his song writing partner for some help and Paul McCartney handed him a piece that he had been working on and was unsure of where to take it. Those two unfinished songs were combined to make one of rock and roll's best songs ever. The final note on the song is played by all four Beatles and George Martin using two pianos and lasts over 40 seconds.
