Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who decided he wanted to have a "Mother and Child Reunion" in 1972?

Answer: Paul Simon

Paul Simon, of course, was part of the very successful duo Simon and Garfunkel, perhaps best known for their "Bridge Over Troubled Water" song. "Mother And Child Reunion" was his first solo hit in the UK. Paul has been married to actress Carrie Fisher and singer Edie Brickell, but not at the same time!
2. Which boyband charted in 1995 with a cover of the old Cat Stevens song "Father And Son"?

Answer: Boyzone

Boyzone seemed to like cover versions, as they also charted with The Osmonds "Love Me For A Reason", The Beegees "Words" and "Baby Can I Hold You Now", a former Tracy Chapman hit. Member Ronan Keating has gone onto achieve solo success, whilst Keith Duffy has gone into acting, most notably in "Coronation Street".
3. "I will be your"....what? said George Michael in 1988.

Answer: Father Figure

Former half of pop duo Wham!, George Michael has achieved solo success worldwide with songs such as "Careless Whisper", "Faith" and "Fastlove". George, whose real name is Georgios Panayiotu, reached number 11 with "Father Figure".
4. Going back to the 1970s, which band often had spelling problems and proclaimed "Mama Weer All Crazee Now"?

Answer: Slade

One of the all time great Glam Rock bands, Slade will always be remembered for their misspelt song titles and Christmas favourite "Merry Xmas Everybody". Lead singer Noddy Holder (real name Neville) has also been a radio DJ and starred in TVs "The Grimleys". For an insight into the 70s music scene, I would recommend reading Noddy's autobiography "Who's Crazee Now?".
5. Who said "Mother's Talk" in 1984?

Answer: Tears For Fears

Tears For Fears were Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Most people these days seem to remember their "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" hit rather then the number 14 song "Mother's Talk".
6. Who was delighted to find "Daddy's Home" in 1981?

Answer: Cliff Richard

I have lost count of the number of hit singles Cliff Richard has had, but he is regarded as one of the most successful singers ever in the UK. "Daddy's Home" was a number 2 hit for the man who just keeps on making hit records!
7. Who had "Brothers In Arms" in 1985?

Answer: Dire Straits

A top twenty hit for the band that have sold millions, played to millions and made millions! "Brothers In Arms" was also used as the theme to the 90s TV series "Civvies".
8. Who sang an ode to their "Sister" in 1989?

Answer: Bros

Twins Luke and Matt Goss, along with bassist Craig Logan, formed boyband Bros with some success in the 1980s. "Sister" was dedicated to the twins' stepsister Carolyn, who was sadly killed in a car crash at the height of the twins' fame.
9. What was the name of the brother in the 1973 Hot Chocolate hit?

Answer: Louie

Fronted by Errol Brown, Hot Chocolate had many hits from the 70s to the 90s, including "You Sexy Thing", which gained exposure again in the hugely popular and successful "The Full Monty" film.
10. Which acclaimed soul singer joined the Eurythmics on their "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves" hit?

Answer: Aretha Franklin

Yes, the "Queen of Soul Music" featured on this UK number 9 hit from 1985. The Eurythmics were Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox, who also had a couple of hits under the name The Tourists. Despite many chart entries, the Eurythmics only had one number hit, with "There Must Be An Angel" in 1985. Aretha Frankin has lent her soulful vocals to many other hits, including "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" with George Michael, and "Through The Storm" with Elton John.
