Answer: True

Absolutely true. Neil Sedaka's "Stairway to Heaven", which he co-wrote along with Howard Greenfield, charted as high as number nine on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts when it was released in 1960. It was his follow up tune to "Oh, Carol".
3. Gene Pitney had a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1962 with "Half Heaven, Half Heartache". The song was a follow up to his prior release "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" which made it to number two on the Billboard charts. Pitney also had other successful tunes like "Town Without Pity" and the "Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". Which part of this statement (if any) is incorrect?

Answer: "Half Heaven, Half Heartache" only reached number twelve on the charts

Pitney actually never had a number one tune on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. "Half Heaven, Half Heartache" reached a peak of number 12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1962. It was the follow up to "Only Love Can Break Your Heart", which was his highest charting hit at number two on the Billboard charts. Ironically, Pitney was prolific songwriter and among the songs he wrote was "He's A Rebel", which was on the top of the Billboard charts in 1962 for The Crystals, and kept his "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" out of the top spot.
4. In 1967, Donovan asked you to "Wear Your ___ Like Heaven". What word goes in the blank space?

Answer: Love

"Wear Your Love Like Heaven" was a 1967 Donovan Leitch tune which peaked at number 23 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts. It was the opening cut from an album called "A Gift from a Flower to a Garden".
5. This group had a string of major hits in the late 1960s, one of which was "Heaven Knows" in 1969. Their original name was The 13th Floor. We know them better as...

Answer: The Grass Roots

The group known as The Grass Roots recorded "Heaven Knows" in 1969. They were actually the third incarnation with the same name, but by far the most successful. They started as The 13th Floor in Los Angeles, and when contracted to record for Dunhill Records, were given the choice of using their own name or using The Grass Roots.

They chose the latter and had such hits as "Let's Live For Today", "Midnight Confessions", and of course, "Heaven Knows" which peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts when it was released in 1969.
6. One of the most popular songs of all time, this tune featured the opening line "There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold and she's buying a stairway to heaven". Who recorded the now classic 1971 tune, "Stairway to Heaven", that was never released as a single?

Answer: Led Zeppelin

This song is not to be confused with the Neil Sedaka song with the same title, recorded 11 years earlier. This "Stairway to Heaven" was a composition which appeared on Led Zeppelin's fourth album and was untitled but commonly referred to as "Led Zeppelin IV". Written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, the tune ran over eight minutes in length when completed and took almost four months to complete.

It was never released as a single in the U.S., mostly due to its length. Examine these facts: by 1991, the song's 20th anniversary, it had been air played over 2,800,000 times. If played continuously, that would add up to about 44 years.

The song has sold over 1,000,000 copies in sheet music form, and is listed on "Rolling Stone" Magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time", at number 31.
