K. C. and the Sunshine Band (1973-1980) Quiz

Another of my favorite groups 'back in the day' was America's party band, K. C. and the Sunshine Band. They made plenty of fun, memorable dance music. Take my quiz and test your memory of these fun tunes. Good Luck and party on!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Complete the song title: "Queen of _________".

Answer: Clubs

This song was a minor hit in the dance clubs of America, and a bigger hit in the United Kingdom.
2. Complete the song title: " ________________ Your Funky Horn".

Answer: Sound

This song was sort of an 'introductory anthem' for R & B radio listeners (like me) back in 1973. The band's horn section, which would play a key role in the group's sound, was in full effect on this party song. Again, it was a bigger hit in the U.K..
3. "Get Down Tonight" is best remembered for its jazzy saxophone solo.

Answer: False

"Get Down Tonight", the group's breakthrough hit, is best known for its hot opening electric guitar solo, performed by guitarist Jerome Smith.
4. Complete the song title: "That's the Way (___ _______ ___).

Answer: I Like It

This song, a #1 hit, co-written by K.C. and guitarist Rick Finch (as were many of their hits), was an affirmation that things were done to their satisfaction (uh-huh, uh-huh!)
5. Complete the song title: "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your _______ ".

Answer: Booty

A timely tune, this song, another #1 hit, was part of the 'booty era'--when many dance moves focused on the hips and derriere. Whether you shook them or bumped them, you had to put them in motion! By the way, Rick Dees encouraged us to shake our tailfeather in the #1 hit, "Disco Duck". Later, Peaches and Herb told us to shake our 'groove thing'.
6. Lyric: "Be it early morning / late afternoon / or at midnight / it's never too soon..."

Answer: I'm Your Boogie Man

Another #1 smash, "I'm Your Boogie Man" was featured on the triple platinum LP, "Part 3". "I Like to Do It" was a rarity--a minor hit single. "Que Pasa" was featured on a later LP.
7. The lyric, "Don't let your well run dry, don't stop it now", is from the song, "Keep It Coming Love".

Answer: True

This song was another #1 hit from the LP "Part 3". Interestingly, the #1 hit song "I'm Your Boogie Man" ran directly into this track on the album, which also became a #1 hit!
8. Complete the song title: "Please Don't ________".

Answer: Go

"Please Don't Go" was originally intended as the "B" side of the single, "Betcha Didn't Know That", which is my all-time favorite K. C. and the Sunshine Band song. Somewhere along the way, a disc jockey started playing "Please Don't Go" instead, and, as they say, the rest is history. "Please Don't Go" became another #1 smash.
9. The song "Boogie Shoes" was featured on the monster hit soundtrack, "Saturday Night Fever".

Answer: True

"Boogie Shoes" was also a "B" side for one of their earlier hits.
10. Complete the song title: "Do You Wanna Go __________".

Answer: Party

This song, the title song from the LP of the same name, asked this seemingly rhetorical question. Judging by America's response, the answer was an emphatic "Yes!"
