Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An easy one to start - which band member thought of the name "Matchbox Twenty"?

Answer: Paul Doucette

The band came up with the name Matchbox Twenty when Paul was a waiter in a diner and saw a guy with a number 20 softball shirt. It was covered with patches and the only word they could read was matchbox. Paul thought it would be a good name for a clothes line - Rob hated it!
2. Who wanted to call the band "Larry"?

Answer: Rob

"Larry" was one of my favorites. People would say, "What's the name of your band?" And you could go: "Larry." "Who you gonna go see?" "Larry." That just seemed like the coolest thing to me. "Hey, Larry's playing!" I think it's brilliant!
3. How old was Kyle when he joined the band?

Answer: 19

He is the baby of they band!
4. According to Paul and Rob (in a 2003 interview) what has been their cheapest video to make?

Answer: Unwell

This was their second single off "More Than You Think You Are" and one of my favourite videos - this doesn't really mean much as all their videos are my favourites!
5. In what order do the band members get into the limo in the "Mad Season" video?

Answer: Kyle, Adam, Paul, Brian, Rob

This is also the order in which they joined the band - Rob, Brian, Paul, Adam, Kyle. Coincidence - or not?
6. In the "Live from Australia" video, at the Airport, Kyle says that unauthorised items that have been taken are there for the rest of the class to look at all the bad people?

Answer: False

He was talking about unclaimed baggage. Brian then says "Unclaimed baggage - none of it is mine, I've claimed all mine."
7. What was the original name for "Yourself or Someone Like You"?

Answer: Woodshed Diaries

They changed it when Rob and Paul were (sort of drunk) in a cafe and a girl was playing a song dedicated to yourself or someone like you. They decided that was what they wanted to call the album even though everything was ready to be sent out as "Woodshed Diaries"!
8. The guy on the front cover of "Yourself or Someone Like You" also appeared in which video?

Answer: Back 2 Good

There are lots of stories as to who that guy is - most of which were made up by the matchsticks themselves! But he is meant to be a cross between a normal man and a super hero. The idea was taken from "Real World". The man was from an agency - the band never met him.
9. Who wrote "Could I Be You"?

Answer: Paul Doucette

It is the first matchbox song which was written entirely by Paul. It was originally for his solo stuff but it was later decided that it sounded more like a matchbox song.
10. Paul broke his hand in a fight he was saving Rob from.

Answer: False

He was frustrated on day when he was trying to sort out something for a show and he went outside and punched a trashcan. He says that since then his playing has been more controlled.
11. In the "Mad Season" video what colours were Rob's and Kyle's scarves?

Answer: White, Orange

I know that was a bit random but there are some pretty amazing outfits in that video!
12. The bonus track on "More Than You Think You Are" is called "I Don't Want Nobody"?

Answer: False

It is called "So Sad So Lonely". This song starts literally seconds after "The Difference" finishes. It is worth listening to all the way through for comments at the end (made, I think, by Brian) about how lame it was to spend so long on it - but then again it's worth listening to all the way through for the song!
13. Complete the lyric "You've been so _____________"

Answer: composed

From "Soul" on "More Than You Think You Are".
14. Which two band members have been known to wear each other's clothes?

Answer: Kyle and Adam

These two were the only matchsticks who weren't in "Tabitha's Secret" the band that Rob, Paul, and Brian were in when they were 'discovered'.
15. What extra song was on the Japanese import of "Yourself or Someone Like You"?

Answer: Tired

This was a "Tabitha's Secret" song.
