Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "We kept this hat of broken dreams, and we pulled them out when we needed them around." (From their first album)

Answer: Kody

This song was written by Rob about his ex girlfriend's nephew who killed himself. In the CD liner of 'Yourself Or Someone Like You' there is a picture of the real Kody at 2 years old.
2. What song is this from their second album? "While you were sleeping, I was listening to the radio wondering what you were dreaming when it came to mind that I didn't care."

Answer: Rest Stop

The 9th song on their album 'Mad Season'. As Rob put it on one of their live shows, "After I finish this song, you will only be saying: 'Rob, you poor sod...'". The song is about a couple who realise that they don't love each other anymore and they don't know how to fix it. It's one of my favourites!
3. What song is this? "Take your straight line for a curve, make it stretch, the same old line."

Answer: You Won't Be Mine

This song from their second album 'Mad Season' is the longest Matchbox song ever made, clocking in at 9 minutes and 8 seconds. It does have a gap of about 3 or 4 seconds in the middle, then an orchestra starts with the tune. The actual song (Rob singing, the Matchsticks playing) is about 4 minutes.
4. I'll put in an easy one - "I can't live without you, tell me what am I supposed to do about it?"

Answer: Disease

From their third album 'More Than You Think You Are' and written by Rob Thomas and Mick Jagger. It was released as the first single from the album.
5. What song is this from 'Yourself Or Someone Like You'? "She grabs a magazine, she packs her things and she goes. She leaves the pictures hanging on the walls, and she burns all her notes."

Answer: Hang

This song has Rob Thomas on acoustic guitar. From their first album 'Yourself or Someone Like You'.
6. What song is this? "This is the sound that I make, these are the words I chose. Somehow the right thing to say just won't come out."

Answer: Could I Be You

This song was the only song on 'More Than You Think You Are' fully written by Paul Doucette. It's about how the matchsticks (Especially Rob) were happy at making it big but Paul wasn't. It was originally intended for his solo material but it sounded more like a Matchbox song so they put it on the album. So really, Rob Thomas is singing to himself, about himself, to the world... that's pretty creepy.
7. "Everyone here knows everyone here is thinking about somebody else."

Answer: Back 2 Good

As Rob puts it, "Everyone has their cheating song, and this is my cheating song."
8. "Slow dancing on the boulevard in the quiet moments while the city's still dark."

Answer: The Difference

The Difference is 8 minutes long with a hidden track - "So Sad So Lonely" that starts literaly seconds after "The Difference" is finished! It's worth it to hear the comments made at the end (By Brian, I think) saying how lame it was to spend so much time on one song.
9. Finish this lyric - I feel _____, but I know it won't last for long."

Answer: Stupid

The title track from their second album. The film clip of this song pokes fun at Rob Thomas' new-found celebrity status.
10. Finally, one of my favourite matchbox songs - "There's always something tearing you apart. It's taking so much longer than you counted on."

Answer: Soul

One of my favourite Matchbox songs from their third album 'More Than You Think You Are.' Unfortunately is wasn't released as a single, but it's so good that it should have been! (That's not saying much as I think all their songs are good!) I hope you enjoyed my quiz!
