He has released seven singles since then and was nominated for "CMT Video of the Year" and "Male Artist of the Year" in 2007. Although he didn't win either award, he has won in past years and also won a Juno for his song "My Name".
"I Want You to Live" was a very touching performance dedicated to the troops in Afghanistan. The theatre was in darkness except for stage lights and the audience holding battery powered candles.
6. Shane Yellowbird won the "Chevy Rising Star" award at the 2007 CCMAs. He sang his hit single at the show. Can you identify it? Answer: Pickup Truck

Shane is a Canadian Aboriginal Country singer from Hobbema, Alberta. His debut and only album so far, "Life is Calling My Name" released in 2006, contains all of his hits. He has won several awards including "Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year" and his song "Life is Calling My Name" was nominated for a Juno Award in 2008. "Pickup Truck" is a catchy, fun song.
7. Jim Cuddy, lead singer for the band, Blue Rodeo performed solo at the 2007 CCMA Awards and did a beautiful job singing and playing piano. From these lyrics, can you pick which song he sang? Answer: Pull Me Through

Jim Cuddy was born in 1955 in Toronto, Ontario. He is married with three children. He has been active in singing and songwriting since 1987, mainly with Blue Rodeo, but has also produced two solo albums. He and Blue Rodeo are one of my favorite bands.
8. Paul Brandt hosted the 2007 CCMA Awards for the sixth time and the fourth straight year. He took the time to perform his latest single at the time of the awards. What was it? "Shot gun everybody getting for the long run, dont know where we're going, but the out come comes with a little bit of trust."

Answer: Didn't Even See the Dust

Paul Brandt has won too many Country Music Awards to list but they include 13 CCMA Awards from 1996 to 2005, seven Juno Awards and "Top New Male Artist Award" with "CMT US" in 1996. He hosted the 2007 CCMA Awards at the Brandt Center in Regina and joked that the place was named for him.

At one point he came out with a winter jacket and a Saskatchewan Roughrider jersey underneath, stating that there are only two seasons in Saskatchewan...Winter and Football Season. Paul was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1972 and before his first music break, he worked as a registered nurse in Airdrie, Alberta.

He still does work with terminally ill children. He and his wife Liz had their first son in May of 2008.
9. Doc Walker did a fantastic job of performing one of their hit singles at the Awards. Which one was it? "She shuts up the ashtray And I say it's a long way back now, Hon. But she just yawns. And she's got the wheel And I've got to deal from now on."

Answer: Driving With The Brakes On

The band Doc Walker is from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and includes lead singer Chris Thorsteinson, along with Dave Wasyliw and Murray Pulver. They have released 19 singles from 1996 to 2008, but have gained most of their popularity in the last two to three years. Doc Walker won the "Album of the Year" award for their self-titled album, "Doc Walker".
10. Emerson Drive stole the show with their performance of this ballad and took home three awards, including "Single of the Year", "CMT Video of the Year", and "Group of the Year". Pick the song from these lyrics: "I was coming to the end of a long, long walk When a man crawled out of a cardboard box Under the E. Street Bridge Followed me on to it..."

Answer: Moments

Emerson Drive is a Canadian Country band from Grande Prairie, Alberta who have been on the Country Music scene since 1995. The current members of Emerson Drive are; Brad Mates (lead vocals), David Pichette (fiddle), Danick Dupelle (lead guitar), Mike Melancon (drums), and Dale Wallace (keyboards). Former bass guitarist Patrick Bourque committed suicide in late September of 2007, but had already resigned from the band in August of 2007. Ironic that the song "Moments" is about a planned suicide.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Emerson Drive in concert a few times, the latest being June 30th of 2008 at a Canada Day Festival. They are fantastic performers. Brad Mates can really sing!
