Mott The Hoople Trivia Quiz

I'm on a bit of a 70's trip at the moment. There I was the other night, dancing around the room to "Roll Away The Stone", when the thought came to me - does anyone else out there remember Mott The Hoople?

Answer: Mona Bone Jakon

"Mott The Hoople", their first album, was released in 1969, and was followed by "Mad Shadows" (1970), "Wildlife" (1971), and "Brain Capers" (1971) ."Mona Bone Jakon" is the title of a Cat Stevens album! Mott The Hoople were formed by guitarist Mick Ralphs as a sort of cross between the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.
2. Which artist wrote the band's first hit single, "All The Young Dudes"?

The band was on the verge of giving up when David Bowie offered them "All The Young Dudes", which became the first of seven UK singles hits for them. It reached number 3 in August 1972, and was also a US number 37 hit the same year. Bowie had also offered Mott his "Suffragette City" song, but they turned him down. A number 14 hit in 1975. Ian also issued a book, the famous "Diary of A Rock 'n' Roll Star" in 1974. (Your quiz writer has a copy but won't be parted from it!) Ian has performed regular solo tours since Mott's demise, and there are also one or two books around on the band's history.

A "Greatest Hits" album is also easily available. I'm off to find some more interesting bands from the 70s now .
