The movie is all about dancing, so why should the soundtrack be any different? This CD is full of dance- friendly songs with a few love ballads slipped in for good measure. Of the main characters in the film that are dancers, five are professional ballet dancers or have had ballet training (Amanda Schull, Zoe Saldana, Ethan Stiefel, Sascha Radetsky, Julie Kent), one is a professional figure skater (Ilia Kulik), and two were actors (Susan May Pratt and Shakiem Evans). Body doubles were used for many of the major dance sequences.

Do you feel retro? You should since all the songs on the soundtrack are like a passport back in time to the seventies. This film had so many songs from the era that another disc was made "Even More Dazed and Confused". And they should get as much use out of the songs as they can since reportedly, one-sixth of the film's budget was spent on acquiring the rights to 1970s pop hits on the soundtrack.

In the movie two of the actors mention another song, when Wolf and Mohr are talking in the supermarket about the cheating girlfriends Wolf says, "Isn't it ironic," to which Mohr replies, "Don't you think," which is a line from the 'Alanis Morrisette' song "Ironic".

In Cruel Intentions, John Ottman's score was originally used during the trailer, however his score was rejected shortly before the film was released and was replaced by Ed Shearmur.

This is the soundtrack of the second installment in the trilogy. While one of the characters argues that sequels are inferior films, this isn't always true for the soundtracks. With the addition of big names like Sugar Ray, Dave Matthews Band, and Foo Fighters, this soundtrack surely out does the original.
