Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1989, one of my very first memories of hearing a song on a radio. Some of the lyrics were "She drives me crazy and I can't help myself", what was the title of the song?

Answer: She Drives Me Crazy

'She Drives Me Crazy' by the Fine Young Cannibals. This single was released in Australia in 1989. It peaked at Number 1 for 2 weeks.
2. 1996: My first favourite song went to number 1 here in Australia, What was the song and the artist? Hint: Also had number 1's in 2002 in Australia.

Answer: Boombastic - Shaggy

'That Girl' never made it to number 1, 'Wonderwall' was number 1 for a week, 'Macarena' stayed at number 1 for 9 weeks and 'Boombastic' stayed at number 1 for 4 weeks in 1996.
3. Also in 1996, my favourite band, Savage Garden, made their debut with a song that made the top 5. What is the name of the song?

Answer: I Want You

'I Want You' peaked at number 4. 'To The Moon and Back' was also released in 1996, but not until near the end of the year and it went to number 1 for a week in 1997. 'Truly Madly Deeply' wasn't released until 1997, and finally 'Magical Kisses' is the original demo version of 'Truly Madly Deeply'.
4. In 1998, the FIFA World Cup was played in France. What was the title of Ricky Martin's song for that World Cup?

Answer: The Cup Of Life

'The Cup Of Life' video had footages of some of the action from the 1998 World Cup, and the single peaked at number 1. 'Tubthumping' also peaked at number 1, was used on the FIFA World Cup 1998 Playstaion game, 'Breathe' by Prodigy was released in 1997 and peaked at number 2 in 1997, and there was never a song called 'Football Fever'.
5. I was 17 in 2001 when one of my fave bands "split". Who are they?

Answer: Savage Garden

Savage Garden supposedly split in October 2001, although I believe the supposed "split" was just a publicity stunt to promote Darren Hayes's solo career and also to promote the band that Daniel Jones is working with, Aneiki. Spice Girls, whom I've never liked, split in 2000, U2 are still together and as far as I know, The Corrs are still around.
6. 1997 was when Puff Daddy first made it big in Australia. The single 'I'll Be Missing You' went to number 1 in a number of countries, but for how long did it stay at number 1 in Australia?

Answer: 3 weeks

'I'll Be Missing You' stayed at number 1 in Australia for 3 weeks in 1997, before being knocked off by Will Smith's 'Men In Black'.
7. In 1995, I watched this music video of a song called 'Here's Johnny' by a dance group by the name of Hocus Pocus. The main feature of this music video that I can remember is a word. What was the word?

Answer: BAM

For the full length of the video, the 'BAM' was displayed on a background that changed colours a couple of times, and also the lyrics were 'bam bam bam, sha bam bam bam'. This song reached number 1 here in Australia in 1995 for 4 weeks.
8. In 2000, one of my fave songs by Savage Garden, 'Crash and Burn', didn't perform to what I'd expect of it. What area of the ARIA Top 100 singles did it peak in?

Answer: Between 20 and 11

The single reached Number 13 in 2000. Which isn't too bad, but many people, including myself, expected this to be a top 5 (or at least a top 10) single.
9. 1991 was the year where i heard this song that went "Its Alright Its alright It's alright, She moves in mysterious ways", but back then, being young, i never knew who sang the song (i do now). Who was this band?

Answer: U2

Yes, that song was called 'Mysterious Ways'. Also the guitar riff of that song is one of the best in my opinion.
10. In mid 1997 I remember hearing Shawn Colvin's single 'Sunny Came Home' and I loved the song, however, it didn't go well in the charts here in Australia as it did in the USA. So did the single even make the ARIA Top 50 singles at all?

Answer: Yes

The single did make the top 50, it peaked at number 45 in 1997. But in the USA it was a top 5 single in 1997.
