This Pink Floyd song appeared on The Wall in 1979. Roger Waters describes his experience of being treated by a doctor so that the show could go on no matter how badly he felt.

Answer: "Blue Sky"

From the "Eat a Peach" album released in 1972 by the Allman Brothers. This was the first album not featuring Duane Allman who died in a motorcycle accident on October 29 1971. This was the last album for bass player Berry Oakley who died November 11 1972 in a motorcycle accident only blocks away from where Duane's accident had occured in Macon Georgia.

Answer: "Behind Blue Eyes"

This song is by the The Who from their 1971 album "Who's Next?". Pete Townsend originally wrote this song for a movie project called "Lifehouse" that never came to pass.

This Led Zeppelin tune is from "Led Zeppelin (IV)" in 1971. The ringwraiths are one of many references made by Led Zeppelin to Tolkien. I did not read "The Lord of the Rings" until a couple of years ago. Suddenly a lot of the lyrics made a lot more sense!

Creedence Clearwater Revival included this song on their "Willie and the Poorboys" album from 1969. Tom and John Fogarty were born and raised in Berkley California but it was their mother's love of southern music that inspired her sons to create what some call 'swamp rock'.

This song by the Hollies appeared on their 1971 album, "Distant Light". Harold Clark was planning on going solo after the production of "Distant Light" and was going to keep "Long Cool Woman" for himself, but because other group members played on it he was forced to include it on "Distant Light".

Jimi Hendrix sang this tune on his 1967 debut album, "Are You Experienced?" Jimi began his career at eighteen following his discharge form military service. He played with countless groups including Little Richard's band. In 1962 he played with Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers in Canada. One of the singers in the band was Tommy Chong who went on to team up with Cheech Marin to create comedy albums and movies.

Answer: "Eight Miles High"

The Byrds sang this song on their 1966 album, "Fifth Dimension".
The tune was ostensibly about their flight to England and subsequent tour however, it became identified as a 'drug song' and stalled at the number 14 spot as a single in the United States.

This Steely Dan tune about a born loser is from their 1972 album, "Can't Buy a Thrill". At six minutes in length, radio stations requested a shorter version to be played as a single. The artists were happy to comply which resulted in a top 10 hit. Says Donald Fagen, "We don't have much of a problem with singles material, because unlike a lot of other basically FM groups, our music tends to be adaptable to really commercial purposes."

Answer: "For What it's Worth"

From Buffalo Springfield's self-titled debut album released in 1967.
Just after it's release, Stephen Stills was inspired by the riots on Sunset Strip to write "For What It's Worth". The record company recalled the album, substituted the new song for "Baby Don't Scold Me", and re-released the album. "For What It's Worth" became a top 10 single and became an anthem for the youth movement.

Answer: "Time of the Season"

The Zombies released this classic on their 1968 album, "Oyssey and Oracle". The Zombies decided to make an album before disbanding in 1967 to persure other interests. One year later, "Time of the Season" was a hit in the United States, peaking at #3.

Answer: "Lucky Man"

Emerson Lake and Palmer released this self-titled album in 1971. Earlier that year the group made their first public appearance, then performed at the Isle of Wight festival before signing a record deal that launched them into rock and roll history.

Answer: "Easy Livin'"

Uriah Heep released this song on their "Demons and Wizards" album in 1972. The band had been called Spice but in 1970, the 100th anniversary of the death of Charles Dickens, the name was changed to Uriah Heep, a character from David Copperfield.

Answer: "Long Promised Road"

From the Beach Boys' 1971 album "Surf's Up". Instead of the hedonistic style of music fans were used to, "Surf's Up" addressed topical issues like student protest and ecology. The album has been panned for being preachy but the beautiful vocal harmonies soar above the sermons.
