Peter Furler was their first drummer. He drummed on the albums "Read All About It" (1988), "Hell is for Wimps" (1990), "Boys Will Be Boyz" (1991), "Not Ashamed" (1992), "Going Public" (1994), and "Take Me to Your Leader" (1996). After these John James, the lead singer, left the band and Peter Furler became the lead singer and Duncan Philips became the drummer.

In 2009 Peter Furler left the band and was replaced with Michael Tait.

Answer: Sean Taylor

Sean Taylor was the bassist for their first four albums but was never the lead singer. John James was their lead singer from 1985 to 1996 then he left and was replaced by Peter Furler. Peter Furler was the lead singer from 1996 to 2009 then he left and was replaced my Michael Tait.

Newsboys was started in 1985 with John James as the lead singer, Peter Furler on the drums, Corey Pryor on the guitar, and Sean Taylor on the bass. They got signed to Refuge Communications in 1987 and came to the US and released "Read All About It" in 1988 followed by "Hell is for Wimps" in 1990.

Then they released "Boys Will Be Boyz" in 1991. Then came the one that made them big, "Not Ashamed" which they released in 1992. This was also the first one to have Steve Taylor writing some of the lyrics.

Then they released "Going Public" in 1994 which featured their all-time greatest hit "Shine". Then they released "Take Me to Your Leader" in 1996 after which John James left. That's six albums that were released with John James as lead singer.

The original version of that song can be found on the "Degarmo and Key" album "The Pledge" released in 1989 as well as "History Makers" (2003) and "The Very Best of Degarmo and Key" (2006).
