Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The flat surface at the "Orange Show Pavilion" in San Bernardino California, was a real drag. Security wouldn't let me stand on my chair, so I was forced to "Run To The Hills." Which band did I see?

Answer: Iron Maiden

My first concert in 1985 was Iron Maiden, supporting their album "Powerslave." Some of the shows on that tour would be recorded and released on their live album "Live After Death."
2. In 1988, I went to my first big Stadium Festival in Los Angeles. With over 144,000 people there, it was hard to see the headliners. I literally had to "Jump." Which band did I see?

Answer: Van Halen

Van Halen headlined the "Monsters Of Rock" tour supporting "OU812" their second album with Sammy Hagar. Also on the bill were Kingdom Come, Dokken, Metallica, and The Scorpions. I first saw Van Halen in 1986 with B.T.O, then in 1992 with Alice In Chains, and in 1996 with Skid Row. The last time I saw Van Halen was in 1998, with Gary Charone on vocals. Jonny Lange was the opening act.
3. When I saw these guys perform, there were television monitors everywhere. During one song the singer quipped "And a woman needs a man, like The Edge needs a camcorder." which band did I see?

Answer: U2

In 1992, I saw U2 during their "ZOO TV Tour" in support of their album "Achtung Baby." Opening the show were The Sugarcubes and Public Enemy. The song that Bono decided to change the lyrics a little was "Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World." I got the chance to hang out with Chuck D (from Public Enemy) in San Diego in 2006 at a Comic Book Convention. He was a really nice guy.
4. Every time I see these guys from the UK, my eyeliner is a little darker, and my hair a lot bigger. People would come up and ask me if they could take "Pictures Of You." Which band did I see?

Answer: The Cure

I first saw The Cure in 1992 in support of the "Wish" album with The Cranes. Twice in 1996 for "Wild Mood Swings" in Los Angeles, where they filmed the video for the song "Gone." In 2000 for "Bloodflowers" and "Flashback To The Future" show as headliners in 2003. I last saw The Cure during the "Curiosa" tour in 2004 with Intorpol, Mogwai, The Rapture, Cursive, The Cooper Temple Clause, Scarling and Head Automatica.
5. At "The Joint" in Las Vegas, I was so close to the singer that he actually winked at me. I turned to my mate and said rather giddily, "Now My Heart Is Full." Which singer made me sigh?

Answer: Morrissey

In 1997 I saw Morrissey at "The Joint" at The Hard Rock Hotel And Casino, supporting the album "Maladjusted." I hit a jackpot before the show and bought my way to the front. There's nothing better than being two feet from the stage. Alas, I've missed every tour since.
6. They can put a "Man On The Moon" but NASA couldn't fix his attitude. And these other guys were "Hard To Handle." Which two bands made my worst ever concert list?

Answer: R.E.M And The Black Crowes

Even though the music was tight and sounded like the studio versions of their songs, Michael Stipe had no personality when I saw him in 1995 supporting their album "Monster." The Black Crowes did a free show called "Independence Daze" in July of 1996. A very short set, and "She Talks To Angels" and "Hard To Handle" were not included on the set list.
7. Before this "Country & Western" singer became a superstar, I saw him at the Apple Valley High School Football Stadium. He put on a great show wearing nothing but his "Buffalo Briefs." Who was this cowboy man?

Answer: Tim McGraw

Touring the country playing smaller venues before his song "Indian Outlaw" turned into a hit in 1994, Tim McGraw visited our little town with Lila McCann. I later saw Tim Mcgraw with The Warner Brothers and The Dixie Chicks in 1999, and with Kenny Chesney in 2000.
8. California based Radio giant KROQ, put on a one day festival called "Inland Invasion Three, Flashback To The Future." This event showcased bands from the "Eighties" and new bands that reflect that era. The guys who stole the show were not from "Planet Earth." Who were they?

Answer: Duran Duran

September 20, 2003 was one day I will not soon forget. Check out this list of bands. Jet, Dramarama, Kings Of Leon, Berlin, General Public, Dashboard Confessional, Bow Wow Wow, Fountains Of Wayne, Marc Almond Of Soft Cell, Interpol, Psychedelic Furs, Violent Femmes, Echo And The Bunnymen, Duran Duran, and finally The Cure. Duran Duran turned the grass into a dance floor. Great Energy!
9. I was lucky enough to see these "Punk Rock Legends" before their lead singer passed away in 2001. His demise was followed by their bassist's in 2002, and their guitarist's in 2004. Which band wanted to send a "Rocket To Russia?"

Answer: The Ramones

Starting in 1991, the popular "Lollapalooza Festivals" were the brainchild of Jane's Addiction front man Perry Farrell. In 1996 I saw Soundgarden, Metallica, Devo, Rancid, The Ramones, Sholin Monks, Screaming Trees and Psychotica.
10. This band is comprised of some of the most talented musicians to ever grace a stage. Some fans would argue their "The Best Of What's Around." Who are these guys?

Answer: The Dave Matthews Band

I saw The Dave Matthews Band in 2004 at "The Home Depot Center" in Carson California, with Ben Harper. Great vibes, great show. Dave would come onstage hours before his show, and talk to the crowd that got there early. He was a cut-up. A must see band.
