The "Friends" soundtrack was a collaborative Elton John and Bernie Taupin effort. The film fared poorly and the title song from the soundtrack barely broke the Top Forty, peaking at Number 34 in the US. The album was eventually certified Gold. Elton and Bernie composed all ten songs on the soundtrack with the exception of "Four Moods" which was written by Paul Buckmaster. "Friends" was the only single release from the soundtrack.
The 1971 film "Friends" was a Teen Romance film directed by Lewis Gilbert. A sequel was released in 1974 titled "Paul and Michelle".

"Levon" was from Elton's "Madman Across the Water" (1971) album. "Daniel" was from the 1973 "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" album. "Amoreena" was a cut from the 1970 "Tumbleweed Connection" album.

"Absolutely Right" was a 1971 Top Forty follow-up to "Signs" from The Five Man Electrical Band. "Signs" was from the group's 1970 "Good-byes and Butterflies" album. It was originally slated to be the flip-side to "Hello Melinda Goodbye". when it was released as a single.
The Five Man Electrical Band was formed as The Staccatos in 1963 in Ottawa. In 1966 the group charted a Top Ten in Canada with "Half Past Midnight". In 1968 they took their new name Five Man Electrical Band from a song written by guitarist Les Emmerson. The group took Emmerson's "Signs" to Number Three in 1971.

"Albert Flasher" by The Guess Who was a 1971 Number 29 single. "Burning Bridges" was a 1971 Number 34 single from the American group Mike Curb Congregation. The Free Movement was formed in Los Angeles and took "I've Found Someone Of My Own" to Number Five in 1971.

Murray Head's "Superstar" was from the soundtrack of the 1970 Rock Opera "Jesus Christ Superstar". "Rings" by Cymarron was the debut single from Columbia's subsidiary label Entrance Records. Cymarron took their name from a 1967 Western television show called "Cimarron Strip". The Soft Rock trio was comprised of Sherrill Parks, Rick Yancey and Richard Mainegra. Although "Rings" was composed by songwriters Eddie Reeves and Alex Harvey, Yancy composed the flip side of "Rings" titled "Like Children".
Producer Chips Moman had retained Yancy for some session work and became familiar with the group. After Cymarron failed to chart any follow up singles Richard Mainegra and Rick Yancey formed the Country band The Remingtons with Jimmy Griffin.

"Question" was a 1970 hit by The Moody Blues. "Vehicle" by the Ides of March rose to Number Two in 1970. "Timothy" was released by The Bouys in 1971 and went to Number 17.

The group recorded "Chicago III" after an exhaustive touring schedule. It was the first release from the band to feature Roman numerals in the title.
Chicago continued to place songs in the Top Twenty and finally topped the charts in 1976 with "If You Leave Me Now".

"Mother", "Elegy" and "Progress?" were album cuts from "Chicago III" that were not released as singles.

David Leonard Johnson performed on the road with The Beach Boys and Dr. John before forming Sweathog in 1967 with Barry "Frosty" Smith. The group became the house band for a San Fernando Valley, California, club called The Chronicle. They landed a contract with CBS Records in 1971 and released"Sweathog".

After the success of "Hallelujah" the band released their second album, "Hallelujah", and opened for such acts as The J. Geils Band, Black Sabbath and Grand Funk Railroad to name a few. "If" was a 1971 Top Ten from Bread. Alice Cooper had a Number 21 single with "Eighteen" and "Liar" was a Number Seven single by Three Dog Night.
