Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The lunatic is on the grass/The lunatic is on the grass/Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs/Got to keep the loonies on the path."

Answer: Brain Damage

Waters wrote the lyrics and the music and sang on this track. It is the second to last song on "Dark Side of the Moon," a powerful anti-climax to the album, the last line of the song being, "I'll see you on the dark side of the moon."
2. "For long you live and high you fly/But only if you ride the tide/And balanced on the biggest wave/You race toward an early grave."

Answer: Breathe

The lyrics on this track were written by Waters, the music was written by Waters, Gilmour, and Wright, and the vocals were sung by Gilmour. "Breathe" is the second track on "Dark Side of the Moon," and holds all of the highest lyrical quality that is expected from Pink Floyd.
3. "Black and blue/And who knows which is which and who is who/Up and down/But in the end it's only round and round and round."

Answer: Us And Them

Waters wrote the lyrics for "Us And Them," Waters and Wright wrote the music, and the vocals were sung by both Waters and Gilmour. "Us And Them" is an interesting song full of symbolism. It was originally meant to be part of a major sequence at the end of the movie "American Beauty" but sadly was edited out.
4. "And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking/And racing around to come up behind you again/The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older/Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."

Answer: Time

The lyrics were written by Waters, the music by Mason, Waters, Wright, and Gilmour, and the vocals were sung by Gilmour and Wright. Time is one of the high points of the album, pointing out how short life is. The symbolism in this line can be interpreted in many ways, my personal take being that you try to be as fast as you once were, but there is always something natural to prove to you how you are slowing down in the world.
5. "All that you touch/All that you see/All that you taste/All that you feel/All that you love/All that you hate/All you distrust/All that you save."

Answer: Eclipse

"Eclipse" was written and sung by Waters. One of my personal favorite tracks, "Eclipse" is the last song on "Dark Side of the Moon." It continues part of the theme of "Brain Damage," singing of how everything you do and "Everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon."
6. "And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime."

Answer: The Great Gig In The Sky

The music on this track was written by Wright and the vocals sung by Clare Torry, the soloist and background vocalist on the album. It is mostly an instrumental and vocal track, except for this clip of someone's voice at the beginning.
7. "Money, get back/I'm all right Jack keep your hands off of my stack/ Money, it's a hit."

Answer: Money

The lyrics and the music were written by Waters, but the song was sung by Gilmour. Money is a lighter song than most of the songs on the track, with the characteristic cash register sounds at the beginning.
8. "I've been mad for years, absolutely years, been over the edge for yonks, been working me buns off for bands... I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us...very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad..."

Answer: Speak To Me

The music on this track was credited to Mason. These words, spoken, are the only words heard on this opening track of "Dark Side of the Moon." The spoken words with odd altering effects are a constant theme on this album, giving it a more dream-like feel.
9. "I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give 'em a quick short, sharp, shock, they won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off lightly, 'cos I would've given him a thrashing - I only hit him once! It was only a difference of opinion, But really...I mean good manners don't cost nothing do they, eh?"

Answer: Us And Them

On "Us And Them", a brief interlude gives us this spoken clip. It sort of works to illustrate the brutality of the song in words, and the fighting theme that's present throughout the song.
10. "Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time/Plans that either come to nought, or half a page of scribbled lines/Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way/The time is gone the song is over/Thought I'd something more to say."

Answer: Time

These are the closing words to the song "Time", an unsettling ending with the metaphor of the song ending probably symbolizing the ending of life when the person who was living that life still had so much more left to do.
