Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which song by Pink Floyd contains these lyrics? "I'm in the hi-fidelity first class travelling set And I think I need a Lear jet."

Answer: Money

From the album "The Dark Side of the Moon." According to Wikipedia, this album was on the U.S. chart for a record 741 weeks.
2. Which song by Genesis contains these lyrics? "You keep telling me I've got everything, you say I've got everything I want You keep telling me you're gonna help me, you're gonna help me, but you don't But now I'm in too deep It's got me so that I just can't sleep Get me out of here, please get me out of here Just help me I'll do anything, anything if you'll just help get me out of here."

Answer: Tonight, Tonight, Tonight

This song appears on the album "Invisible Touch" from 1986. This album is the fifth by the trio of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks.
3. Which song by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer contains these lyrics? "He went to fight wars For his country and his king Of his honor and his glory The people would sing."

Answer: Lucky Man

This song appears on their first album, "Emerson, Lake, and Palmer" from 1970. Keith Emerson was previously in The Nice, Greg Lake was previously in King Crimson, and Carl Palmer was previously in Atomic Rooster.
4. Which song by Jethro Tull contains these lyrics? "The old Rocker wore his hair too long, wore his trouser cuffs too tight. Unfashionable to the end - drank his ale too light Death's head belt buckle - yesterday's dreams - The transport caf' prophet of doom. Ringing no change in his double-sewn seams in his post-war babe gloom."

Answer: Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young To Die

This song is from the album "Too Old To Rock 'N' Roll: Too Young To Die!" Ian Anderson writes in the liner notes to the 2002 remastered CD:

"Written and rehearsed in Montreux, Switzerland in a ballroom adjoining the Montreux Palace Hotel, it was destined originally to be the soundtrack to a stage musical based on a late fifties motor cycle rocker and his living-in-the-past nostalgia for youthful years. Not me, guv, honest. Why do people always think it has to be autobiographical?"
5. Which song by King Crimson contains these lyrics? "The keeper of the city keys Put shutters on the dreams. I wait outside the pilgrim's door With insufficient schemes."

Answer: The Court of the Crimson King

From the first King Crimson album, "In the Court of the Crimson King." Greg Lake, who would later become "the L" in ELP, provides the vocals to all the tracks. This is one of my favorite rock albums! On this album, you will find the manic "21st Century Schizoid Man" (still ahead of its time) juxtaposed with the quiet "I Talk To the Wind." A mellotron is used to great effect on the tracks "Epitaph" and "The Court of the Crimson King." This was one of the very first progressive rock albums and was released in 1969.

In 2004, an HDCD remastered version appeared that used the original master tapes.
6. Which song by Yes contains these lyrics? "Along the drifting cloud the eagle searching down on the land Catching the swirling wind the sailor sees the rim of the land The eagles dancing wings create as weather spins out of hand."

Answer: Roundabout

This song appears on "Fragile." This album contains the "classic Yes lineup" of Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe, and Squire.
7. Which song by Genesis contains the following lyrics? "Though man-made light, at night is very bright, There's no whitewash victim, As the neons dim, to the coat of white."

Answer: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

From the album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway," which is the last album of the Peter Gabriel era. Phil Collins would become lead singer starting with their next album, "A Trick of the Tail."
8. Which song by Pink Floyd contains the following lyrics? "But it was only fantasy The wall was too high, as you can see No matter how he tried he could not break free And the worms ate into his brain."

Answer: Hey You

From the double album "The Wall." This is the last album that included the lineup of Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright. Richard Wright does not appear on the next album, "The Final Cut," but does return for "A Momentary Lapse of Reason."
9. Which song by Jethro Tull contains the following lyrics? "Is it so frightening to have me at your shoulder? Thunder and lightning couldn't be bolder, I'll write on your tombstone, 'I thank you for dinner.' This game that we animals play is a winner."

Answer: Bungle in the Jungle

This song appears on "Warchild" from 1974. The album also contains the popular track "Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day."
10. Which song by Yes contains the following lyrics? "Look up - Look down Look out - Look around Look up - Look down There's a crazy world outside we're not about to lose our pride."

Answer: It Can Happen

This song appears on "90125." The Cinema version of "It Can Happen" appears on the 2004 Rhino remastered version of "90125" as a bonus track. That version does not have Jon Anderson on vocals. "90125" is one of my favorite albums from the 1980s, but I wouldn't call is very "progressive." From the liner notes - an Apple IIE computer was used in the process of making the image on the cover!
