Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This one should be easy for any Less than Jake fans: which song begins with the words, "This is the old dude, Harry Jay Reynolds, and you're listening to Less than Jake"?

Answer: Automatic

This was the song that got my husband interested in ska, and is my current favorite.
2. "And the days, and the days, they seem like forever..." Which song by Streetlight Manifesto declares this?

Answer: Point Counterpoint

"...but forever is never enough."

This song really grew on me. "Better Place, Better Time" was my first favorite Streetlight song, but this one soon surpassed it. We both really love the bit near the end, "So I waited by the phone but the phone never rang and I sang so loud so I wouldn't hear the bang but the bang never came and I never got the call..." and I can't repeat the rest here because it's a family site, right?
3. "The next time I create the Universe/I'll make sure you participate." Which band's song contained this lyric?

Answer: Bad Religion

This line comes from the song "Better Off Dead," by Bad Religion, a totally, wonderfully sarcastic song. Some of their other awesome songs are "American Jesus," "I Want to Conquer the World," and "21st Century Digital Boy."
4. In the song, "Institutionalized," by Suicidal Tendencies, what type of beverage did the singer want?

Answer: Pepsi

The following is a conversation between the protagonist and his mother.

"- No mom, I'm not on drugs, I'm ok, I'm just thinking, you know, why don't
you get me a Pepsi?
She goes:
- No, you're on drugs, you're crazy, normal people won't be acting that way!
I go:
- Mom, I'm all right, I'm just thinking, you know, so why don't you, like
give me a Pepsi?
And she goes:
- No, you're crazy!
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me,
just one Pepsi."
5. Complete the line from The Bouncing Souls song, "Hopeless Romantic." "I'm a hopeless romantic, you're ___________."

Answer: just hopeless

"I don't know what other people see
or what they think is love
But I know what it means to me
I fall in love so easily
And it's hard to let your guard down
Something you never wanted to
I gave you my love and if you turned away
I guess I'd be screwed, but...

I'm a hopeless romantic
You're just hopeless"
6. Complete the line from the Operation Ivy song, "Sound System." "It's there for a second Then it's..."

Answer: given up what it used to be

In college, my husband wrote a term paper comparing the message in this song with the message in Jean-Paul Sartre's (a philosopher) novel "Nausea," and got an A+ from his professor, who wrote her doctoral dissertation on "Nausea." "Nausea" is considered to be one of the core books of existentialism.

"It's there for a second
Then it's given up what it used to be."
7. In the song, "Southbound 95," by Avail, where is home?

Answer: Richmond, V.A.

"Boredom in the mobile home in nowhere u.s.a./Somehow gotta make it home to Richmond V.A."
8. In the song, "Catfight," by Dance Hall Crashers, where is the water pistol from?

Answer: Chinatown

For those who might not be familiar with the song, she is not speaking of a feline fight, but a girl fight.

"The back alley cat fight
Made me get my water pistol from Chinatown out
A pink dragon with light blue horns
That shoots a stream of water from its mouth, like fire"
9. In the song, "Mr. Smiley," by Mustard Plug, what did Mr. Smiley do?

Answer: commit murder

"I remember how it used to be,
and all the things you said to me.
You always taught me right from wrong.
(Wrong from right, right from wrong)
'Til you went on the killing spree,
and killed your family.
Why is this the way things have to be?"
10. According to one NOFX song, which day is a beautiful day?

Answer: August 8th

The song is "August 8th."

"Birds sing there's not a cloud in the sky
Yeah, August 8th is a beautiful day"

August 28th is our anniversary, and the other dates are random.

If it weren't for this song, my husband would never have gotten into punk music, so I wouldn't have either.

Hope you enjoyed!
