New Orleans born Joe Jones recorded this song that hit #89 on the charts in 1961. It was written by Henry Glover and Morris Levy. The Rivieras were 5 kids from Indiana who had never been to California.

AFI lists the Kelly rendition as number three on its top 100 songs list for the first 100 years.

This song was published in 1940 with lyrics by Vincent Ross and music by Al Lewis and Larry Stock. It was performed by six different artists in 1940 with the version by Glenn Miller being the biggest hit. Gene Autry also recorded it in 1940 before including in his movie the next year.
