Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who sang these lyrics: "Well, they'll stone ya when you're tryin' to be so good. They'll stone ya just like they said they would. They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to go home. Then they'll stone ya when you're there all alone. But I would not feel so all alone. Everybody must get stoned."

Answer: Bob Dylan

"Rainy Day Women #12 and 35", from the album "Blonde On Blonde", originally released in 1966. This album also includes the tunes, "Just Like A Woman", "Absolutely Sweet Marie", and "Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again". The album "Blonde On Blonde" was Dylan's seventh studio album in the span of four years, and was the first double-length album released by the folk-rock legend. If there was an album called "Music To Get Stoned By", you can bet that "Rainy Day Women" would be the opening track.
2. Who sang these lyrics: "And the waitress is practicing politics, as the businessmen slowly get stoned. Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness, but it's better than drinking alone."

Answer: Billy Joel

"Piano Man", from the album of the same name, originally released in 1973. This album also includes the tunes, "Captain Jack", "Somewhere Along The Line", and "The Ballad of Billy The Kid". "Piano Man", the album, became Billy Joel's breakthrough album on the strength of the four songs mentioned above, and "Piano Man", the song, has become Billy Joel's signature song, well, for obvious reasons. Those reasons being that Joel plays piano, not because he's always getting stoned.
3. Who sang these lyrics: "Ridin' down the highway, goin' to a show, stoppin' on the byways, playin' rock 'n' roll. Gettin' robbed, gettin' stoned, gettin' beat up, broken boned."

Answer: AC/DC

"It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll)", from the album "High Voltage", originally released in 1976. This album also includes the tunes, "TNT", "Live Wire", and one of my favorite AC/DC tunes, "The Jack". The album "High Voltage" was originally released in Australia in 1975, under the name "TNT", but was changed to "High Voltage" for its American release a year later. Man, can this band rock! And man, can this band get stoned!
4. Who sang these lyrics: "And here she's acting happy, inside her handsome home. And me, I'm flying in my taxi, takin' tips and gettin' stoned."

Answer: Harry Chapin

"Taxi", from the album "Heads & Tales", originally released in 1972. This album also includes the tunes, "The Same Sad Singer", "Greyhound", and "Everybody's Lonely". The original "Heads & Tales" album cover is yellow with black-and-white checkerboard design, made to resemble a typical taxicab. Harry Chapin died in a car accident in 1981. Maybe he was flyin' in his taxi and gettin' stoned.
5. Who sang these lyrics: "I come 'round, 'round the hard way. Bring you comics in bed, scrape the mold off the bread, and serve you French toast again. Well okay, I still get stoned; I'm not the kind of girl you'd take home."

Answer: Sheryl Crow

"If It Makes You Happy", from Sheryl Crow's self-titled album, originally released in 1996. This album also includes the tunes, "A Change Would Do You Good", "Redemption Day", and "Everyday Is A Winding Road". Crow's self-titled album was actually her second album after her 1994 debut, "Tuesday Night Music Club". What was this girl, stoned?
6. Who sang these lyrics: "I'd pay any price just to get you, I'd work all my life and I will. To win you, I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed."

Answer: The Who

"Bargain", from the album "Who's Next", originally released in 1971. This album also includes the tunes, "Behind Blue Eyes", "Gettin' In Tune", and "Won't Get Fooled Again". The cover of this classic album depicts all four members of the band walking away from a large monolith in the middle of a desert, apparently after just relieving themselves on the big stone.

These guys must have been really stoned when they made that album cover. Sheesh!
7. Who sang these lyrics: "So the world is spinning faster; are you dizzy when you're stoned? Let the music be your master; will you heed the master's call?"

Answer: Led Zeppelin

"Houses Of The Holy", from the album "Physical Graffiti", originally released in 1975. This album also includes the tunes, "Down By The Seaside", "Kashmir", "In The Light", and "Boogie With Stu". Doesn't it seem odd that the song "Houses Of The Holy" was not on Zeppelin's previously released album which was titled "Houses Of The Holy"? What's up with that, guys? Were you stoned or something?
8. Who sang these lyrics: "I'll be with you girl, like being low, hey hey hey like being stoned. I'll be with you girl, like being low, hey hey hey like being stoned."

Answer: Cracker

"Low", from the album "Kerosene Hat", originally released in 1993. This album also includes the tunes, "Get Off This", "Sweet Potato", "Take Me Down To The Infirmary", and "Hi-Desert Biker Meth Lab". Now, Cracker is a band that never got their rightfully deserved recognition. Maybe it was because they were stoned all the time, I don't know. But they did write some great music.
9. Who sang these lyrics: "I got stoned and I missed it, I got stoned and I missed it, I got stoned and it rolled right by. I got stoned and I missed it, I got stoned and I missed it, I got stoned, oh me oh my."

Answer: Dr. Hook

"I Got Stoned And I Missed It", from the album "Bankrupt", originally released in 1975. This album also includes the tunes, "Only Sixteen", "On The Way To The Bottom", and "Everybody's Makin' It Big But Me". Several of Dr. Hook's songs, including "Cover of The Rolling Stone", "Sylvia's Mother", "Freakin' At The Freakers' Ball", and "I Got Stoned And I Missed It", were written by humorist Shel Silverstein. Silverstein was a cartoonist for the American military newspaper, "Stars And Stripes", and for "Playboy Magazine", and has also written numerous childrens' books including "The Giving Tree".

This was one versatile dude! He must have been stoned 24 hours a day!
10. Time once again for the mystery word. Now, without going back to peek, tell me: What one word was used at least once in each of the previous nine lyrics?

Answer: Stoned

That's right...stoned. This is the exact state I've been in while making each and every one of the "Mystery Word" series of quizzes...except this one. Now, how ironic is that? Maybe that's why this quiz seemed a bit tougher than all the others.
