Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Streets of ___ (1994)

Answer: Philadelphia

Written by Bruce Springsteen for the film 'Philadelphia', which starred Tom Hanks and was released in 1993, 'Streets of Philadelphia' garnered an Academy Award for Best Original Song. The song was released as a single in 1994 and was a big hit for Bruce, reaching number one on the charts in several European countries as well as achieving a number nine position on the US Billboard Chart.

The Boss is Springsteen's nickname.
2. Werewolves of ___ (1978)

Answer: London

The song was recorded by Warren Zevon who was also credited with writing it, along with Waddy Wachtel and LeRoy Marinell. The recording featured a star studded cast, with Mick Fleetwood on drums and John McVie on bass guitar - two of the founding members of Fleetwood Mac.

The producers were Jackson Browne and Wachtel, who also played guitar while Zevon provided piano and vocals. The song wasn't a huge hit, but is memorable for its lyrics and Zevon's performance, incorporating some werewolf howls.
3. What's Made ___ Famous (1972)

Answer: Milwaukee

The full title includes 'Has Made a Loser Out of Me' in brackets and refers to the beer brewed in Milwaukee and how being unable to drag yourself away from the bar and go home can ruin your life. Rod Stewart recorded the song in 1972, and had a number four hit with it on the UK Singles Chart, while Jerry Lee Lewis released his version in 1968 in the USA.

Sir Roderick, as he now is, was known as 'Rod the Mod' in his early days.
4. ___ Bay (1970)

Answer: Montego

Something of a 'one hit wonder', Bobby Bloom had great success with his song about the Jamaican city of 'Montego Bay', although he was an American. The song reached the top ten of the singles charts of the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. Bloom's follow up recordings were far less successful and he died from an accidental gunshot wound in 1974.
5. One Night in ___ (1984)

Answer: Bangkok

'One Night in Bangkok' was written by Benny and Bjorn from ABBA, with lyrics by Bjorn and Tim Rice for their album and stage musical 'Chess', which also brought us 'I Know Him so Well'. 'One Night in Bangkok' was recorded by Murray Head and proved a big hit, reaching number one in many countries, number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number twelve on the UK Singles Chart.
6. Last Train to ___ (1966)

Answer: Clarksville

Recorded by The Monkees, 'Last Train to Clarksville' was the first single released by the band, with Mickey Dolenz taking the lead vocal. The band's success was created by their television show, which ran originally for around eighteen months from 1966 to 1968. 'Last Train to Clarksville' reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 but only number twenty-three on the UK Singles Chart, even though I recall the television show being reasonably popular on the UK side of the Atlantic.

The hint referred to the rather derogatory nickname given to The Monkees as being a 'rip off' of the original Fab Four, The Beatles.
7. Long Haired Lover from ___ (1972)

Answer: Liverpool

Little Jimmy Osmond, as he was styled at the time the song was released, was only aged nine at the time and was very much the junior member of The Osmonds. Jimmy and Donny were the two members of the group to achieve solo success, although sister Marie also made her mark in the charts. 'Long Haired Lover from Liverpool' reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, including being the Christmas number one.
8. ___ Cats (1966)

Answer: Nashville

The Lovin' Spoonful, which included John Sebastian in their line up at the time, were at the height of their success in the mid to late 1960s and 'Nashville Cats' was just one of their many hits of the time. Others included 'Daydream' and 'Summer in the City', also in 1966, and 'Darling be Home Soon' in 1967. 'Nashville Cats' reached number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100.
9. The Only Living Boy in ___ (1970)

Answer: New York

This was one of the songs from Simon and Garfunkel's best selling album 'Bridge over Troubled Water', also from 1970. 'The Only Living Boy in New York' was issued in conjunction with another song from the album, 'Cecilia', and reached number four on the US Billboard Hot 100.
10. Twenty-Four Hours from ___ (1963)

Answer: Tulsa

The song was one of the many written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and gave Gene Pitney a top ten hit in the UK, Canada and Australia, while it reached only a relatively lowly seventeen on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was one of many hits for Pitney, with other major singles being 'I'm Gonna be Strong' in 1964 and 'Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart'.

The latter song was a hit twice over for Gene in the UK, as a solo hit in 1967 and as a duet with Marc Almond in 1989.
