Somewhere in the east
Floating down a crowded street

Just beyond the door
There's an old man here
He claims that he knew you in another life

Could it be he still thinks you're his wife?" ?

My mind seems to fade too fast

A nod of the head and a pull of a thread
I can't say no, can't say no" ?
Hint

Dress to kill
Wont you come and join the party
Dress to kill.

People forget
Forget they're hiding
The news slows
People forget
The shares crash, hopes are dashed
People forget
Forget they're hiding.

Did you ever love somebody,

Letting go of my hand in a crowd
You don't want to hold tight.
But when we kiss goodnight
There's a million hearts
Beating in my room
I wish they would go away
I say again
There's a million hearts
That break too soon
Every time you go away" ?
Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Band sings, "When you think your toys have gone berserk it's an illusion you cannot shirk you hear laughter cracking through the walls it sends you spinning you have no choice Following the footsteps of a rag doll dance we are entranced..." ?

Answer: Siouxsie and the Banshees

The song is "Spellbound" from the album "Juju" (1981). Siouxsie and the Banshees core consisted of Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin and Budgie for most of their career. Other guitarists, such as Robert Smith (The Cure) and John McGeoch (Magazine) joined them at different times.
2. Who sings, "When your day is through, and so is your temper, You know what to do, I'm gonna always be there. Sometimes if I shout, it's not what's intended These words just come out, with no cross to bear..."

Answer: When In Rome

The song is "The Promise" from the album "When In Rome" (1988). One could consider this group a one-hit wonder. This group also happens to be a trio, with two of the members sharing vocals (one for the verse, the other for chorus) in this song.
3. Which group sang this song, "Tell me a story of mind over matter the hope and the glory of life ever after the sound and the fury, the cloak and the dagger days when we sink like a stone Porcelain portraits on silver medallions plasticine soldiers that march in battalions angels of mercy and lifelong companions days when we sink like a stone"?

Answer: Tears for Fears

The song is "Ladybird" from the album "Everybody Loves a happy Ending" (2004). This album saw the reuniting of Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal after about 12 years of separation due to creative differences. While that is a phony excuse for most bands, it was the utmost truth for them, which is evidenced with what they released as solo artists. Roland maintained the harder, more guitar driven work as seen in "Sorry," while Curt kept the softer, more melodic parts of their songs, as seen in "Seven of Sundays."
4. What group sings, "Arrive in a hive city Somewhere in the east Floating down a crowded street As though I am or I will be released Elly's stopped yawning, clear blue morning In mourning no more Come and see the wild things that are Just beyond the door There's an old man here He claims that he knew you in another life I'm not sure what he's sayin', Elly, Could it be he still thinks you're his wife?" ?

Answer: The Church

The song is "Two Places at Once" from the album "Sometime Anywhere" (1994). This band is perhaps best known for their song "Under the Milky Way" which appeared on a previous album. The song received greater exposure, and/or renewal, when it was featured in the cult film "Donnie Darko."
5. What group sings "My painted face is chipped and cracked My mind seems to fade too fast Clutching straws, sinking slow Nothing lasts, nothing lasts A puppets motions controlled by a string By a stranger I've never met A nod of the head and a pull of a thread I can't say no, can't say no" ?

Answer: Visage

The song is "Mind of a Toy" from the album "Visage" (1980). Steve Strange, lead singer of Visage, was one of Bowie's "priests" in his music video for "Ashes to Ashes" that same year. Midge Ure, who provided the majority of the music and lyrics for the album (as well as supplying some backing vocals), went on to form, and become the lead singer of, Ultravox.
6. Are these lyrics from a song sung by The Who? Come on join the party Dress to kill Wont you come and join the party Dress to kill. The drinks flow People forget That big wheel spins, the hair thins People forget Forget they're hiding The news slows People forget The shares crash, hopes are dashed People forget Forget they're hiding.

Answer: Yes

The song is "Eminence Front" from the album "It's Hard" (1982). This is the only song considered a success on the entire album, especially by lead singer Roger Daltrey. This album was neither a commercial nor a critical success, but the song itself remains a strong force after many years.
7. Peter Hook of Joy Division sang lead on the song with these lyrics. "Spent all my time, learnt a killer's art. Took threats and abuse till I'd learned the part. Can you stay for, these days" ?

Answer: False

The song is "These Days" from the album "Substance" (1988). Although "Substance" was released long after Ian Curtis tragically ended his life, all of the songs had been previously recorded, although not all had been released on an album. Peter Hook shared vocals with Ian on the song "Interzone" on the album "Unknown Pleasures" but did not have a shot at lead until "Doubts Even Here" which was released as New Order, on their first album, "Movement."
8. Who sings this song, "Don't look at the carpet, I drew something awful on it See You're such a wonderful person But you got problems oh-oh-oh-oh I'll never touch you" ?

Answer: David Bowie

The song is "Breaking Glass" from the album "Low" (1977). This is part of the Berlin Trilogy that Bowie released in the 1970's. Each album has the increased use of synthesizers on it due to Brian Eno's influence.
9. Which band sang these lyrics, "Don't ask me What you know is true Don't have to tell you I love your precious heart I I was standing You were there Two worlds collided..." ?

Answer: INXS

The song is "Never Tear us Apart" from the album "Kick" (1987). This album could probably be considered one of INXS's best works. It spawned other hits as well, such as "Need you Tonight" and "Mediate."
10. Which group sang these lyrics, "When you were young, Did you ever love somebody, Like I love, I love you now? 'Cause now that you're older I see you don't mind Letting go of my hand in a crowd You don't want to hold tight. But when we kiss goodnight There's a million hearts Beating in my room I wish they would go away I say again There's a million hearts That break too soon Every time you go away" ?

Answer: The Dream Academy

This song is "The Edge of Forever" from the album "The Dream Academy" (1985). The trio of Nick Laird-Cowles, Kate St. John, and Gilbert Gabriel are best known for the song released before this, known as "Life in a Northern Town." The group released two more albums after their debut, and broke up not long after the third.

The reason being lack of success and sales, because they could not regenerate the sheer power of "Life in a Northern Town." Without a doubt, I would consider them one of the most brilliant and underrated bands in contemporary times.
