quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which band did Brian Johnson sing for before joining AC/DC?

Answer: Geordie

After Bon Scott died, there was doubt whether anyone could replace him. Looking back, this Newcastle lad, Brian Johnson, was really the only contender.
2. What was "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles originally intended as when it was written?

Answer: A children's song

Paul had the idea of writing a kiddies' song. As it turned out... well, you know...
3. This French singer was called "The Sparrow of Paris". She was a tiny woman with a gigantic voice. In one of her biggest hits, she stated "I have no regrets".

Answer: Edith Piaf

The life of this lady was packed. It started by her being born under a Paris street lamp. Check out her biography... riveting.
4. What was John Lennon's middle name? (The one his parents gave him)

Answer: Winston

Named after (who else?) Winston Churchill. He later legally changed his middle name to 'Ono'.
5. And while we're at it: What was Paul McCartney's middle name?

Answer: Paul

His full name is James Paul McCartney.
6. Whom was the song "Shooting Star" by Bad Company dedicated to?

Answer: Jimi Hendrix

Many think this was written for ex Free member Paul Kossof, who died from a drug overdose while with Free. After Free disbanded, Bad Company formed, with Paul Rogers as vocalist. He then went on to sing with Queen.
7. In which British soap did Davy Jones play before joining "The Monkees"?

Answer: Coronation Street

The story that Mike Nesmith, Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Mickey Dolenz were "just four guys who answered a newspaper advert" applying to become this manufactured band is only true in a minuscule way. All of them had been involved in showbiz in one way or another. For instance, Mickey Dolenz had a leading role in the TV series "Circus Boy".
8. Who was the singer who shot to worldwide fame through the B-side of a single?

Answer: Rod Stewart

The song in question is "Maggie Mae". The official release was "Reason To Believe", a song also covered by Johnny Cash. An English DJ, just for a laugh, decided to play the B-side and the rest, as you know, is history.
9. Who is Anna Mae Bullock?

Answer: Tina Turner

Another one whose life was, and still is, action-packed. There goes another interesting biography....
10. Who was tagged with "The Loon" behind his name?

Answer: Keith Moon

Keith Moon lived up to the name and did so intentionally. Read "Dear Boy The Life of Keith Moon". A book you just can't put down, even if you're not a Who fan.
11. Who played live at "Nine Tonight"?

Answer: Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band

"Nine Tonight", one of the very best Seger albums.
12. Who was Herman, of Herman's Hermits?

Answer: Peter Noone

Another one who was in "Coronation Street"...
13. "Fire", by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, was executive-produced by whom?

Answer: Pete Townshend

Crazy World was a good band, unfortunately only a one-hit-wonder.
14. In which movie did Sting play the Top Mod Ace?

Answer: Quadrophenia

"Quadrophenia" showed the era of Mods and Rockers in England and it did so very realistically. This was a movie produced by The Who and, accordingly, all the music in this film is by them, although none of them took a role in the film.
15. Who is Richard Penniman?

Answer: Little Richard

Does Little Richard sound better? Who cares? The music was great.
16. What, (wrongly) was "Can't Buy Me Love" all about, to most of the American public?

Answer: Prostitution

The puritanical section of the USA pitched this notion and, as Paul stated, they were way off the mark.
17. Who were originally "Tom and Jerry"?

Answer: Simon and Garfunkel

There was a Copyright conflict, so they changed to their real names.
18. Who thought she saw Joe Hill?

Answer: Joan Baez

She put this one on several albums.
19. Which of these is the most-recorded song?

Answer: Yesterday

"Yesterday" has been recorded close to 300 times.
20. The Beatles recorded "Words Of Love" on the "Beatles For Sale" Album. Who wrote and recorded the original?

Answer: Buddy Holly

One of my favourite tracks. Makes me go all fuzzy.
