1. Before they became known as Smokie, the band had a few other names. Which name had they NOT been known as?

Answer: Mozaic

The band formed in 1964 as The Yen. Several name changes later they became Smokey, but due to an artist of the same name (Smokey Robinson), they altered the spelling to 'Smokie'.
2. What was the name of Smokie's debut album?

Answer: Pass it Around

'Pass it Around' was released at the beginning of 1975. The first single by the same name was banned by some radio stations because the stations felt it had a drug connotation.

Answer: If You Think You Know How to Love Me

'If You Think You Know How to Love Me' reached number three in the UK Singles Top 40 chart in late 1975. It was released off the album 'Changing All The Time'.

Chris Norman, Terry Uttley, Alan Silson and Ron Kelly formed the band in 1964 at St Bede's Grammar School in Heaton, Bradford. Pete Spencer joined in 1973 to replace Ron Kelly.

In 1959, Neil Sedaka reached number three in the UK Singles Top 40 charts with 'Oh Carol'. Smokie's version reached number five in 1978. It has been said that the song was originally written for Carole King.

The song was written by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono, and originally recorded by Jackie DeShannon in 1963. The Searchers took it to number one in January 1964 in the UK Singles chart. The song was also recorded for Smokie's 'Bright Lights and Back Alleys' album. Great song!

'Stumblin' In' only reached position 41 in the UK Singles charts. The song was written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn.

'Mexican Girl' is one of my favourites. It was released off 'The Montreux Album' (1978).

In 2010, the band members were: Terry Uttley, Martin Bullard, Steve Pinnell, Mick O'Connell and lead singer Mike Craft. Uttley plays the bass guitar.
