1910 Fruitgum Company's "Simon Says" made the US Top Ten in 1968. Guitarist Frank Jeckell composed the song that was inspired from a candy bar wrapper he found in his house. Jeckell's name was prominent in the name of the band when it was formed as Jeckell and The Hydes in 1965. They changed their name before recording "Simon Says" and after the success of the song they began opening for the Beach Boys on tour.
They released follow up singles including "Indian Giver", "1, 2, 3, Red Light", "Goody, Goody Gumdrops" and "May I Take a Giant Step".
In 1970 "Go Away" was their last single release as the Bubble Gum music phase was fading out.
"Yummy Yummy Yummy" was a hit by The Ohio Express. The Lemon Pipers had a hit with "Green Tambourine" and The Archies released Bubble Gum songs such as "Sugar Sugar".

The 1966 "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" album contained their "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" and "Homeward Bound" singles. In 1968 the duo's "Bookends" LP contained "Mrs. Robinson". Both "Sounds of Silence" and "Mrs. Robinson" were used on the soundtrack of "The Graduate" in 1967.

He relocated to California where he was signed signed with the Mediarts label after over 30 labels rejected his efforts. United Artists Records assumed Mediarts and released "American Pie" in 1971.
James Taylor released "Country Road" in 1971. "I Hear You Knockin'" went to Number Four for Dave Edmunds. Donnie Elbert took "Where Did Our Love Go" to number 15 in 1971.
