Jim Lowe opened the door to the number one spot and spent three weeks at the top of the US pop chart in 1956. It reached number eight on the UK chart in the same year. It was his only US top ten hit and his only UK chart entry but it earned him a US Gold Disc.

Frankie Vaughan reached number two on the UK chart with the song in 1956 and Glen Mason reached number 24 on the UK chart with the song also in 1956. Shakin' Stevens took it all the way to number one on the UK chart for four weeks in 1981. None of these three versions reached the US chart.

"A White Sport Coat (And A Pink Carnation)" gave Marty Robbins a number two hit on the US pop chart in 1957. It failed to chart in the UK. Country & Western singer Marty Robbins was one of the first to have major crossover hits on the pop chart and reached number one for two weeks with "El Paso" in 1960. Not so good in the UK where it only reached number 19 the same year.

US singer Johnny Desmond reached number 62 on the US pop chart with the song in 1957 but it failed to chart in the UK. UK group The King Brothers took the song to number six on the UK chart in 1957. "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" was a number three hit for Buddy Holly on the UK chart in 1963. It failed to chart in the US. The song was written by Chuck Berry who released it as the B-side of "Too Much Monkey Business" in 1956.

The song was released posthumously on the Buddy Holly album "Reminiscing" in 1963. The only other singer to have charted with the song is Paul McCartney who reached number 42 on the UK chart in 1999.
